I totally accept that @random2404. It's just that I don't want to go there, and without going there I accept that my point isn't backed up.


I don't at all doubt your support of the Cork team @random2404. We'll just have to agree to differ on the extent of the situation, because of my unwillingness to back up my point by referencing named players.

I'll make another generalization (which I know is not near as useful to this discussion): A player can appear to be the best in their position because they are in a team composed of excellent players - the same player in another team, and playing just as well in the circumstances he finds himself in, would not appear near as good. I consider that to be a massive factor in all-star selection, and indeed in assessments generally as to who are the best players.

Yea in fairness your right, maybe if some of those players from counties like kerry and dublin were playing on division 2 teams they wouldn’t stand out at all and maybe if cork players played on those kerry dublin teams they would stand out even more, at the end of the day The all star selection just isn’t fit for purpose

If you don’t name cork players that you think would of made an “all ireland 15” then your point isn’t really backed up
i’m not knocking our own i’m just stating that in cork over the last 12 years every year we might of had one player that stood out (on OUR team) and preformed very well for us and we think “jesus is he in with a chance of an all star” but in reality the player in question was more than likely nowhere near the level of players in his same position form top counties like Dublin, kerry and some of the northern counties.
Unfortunately a lot of cork football follwers look at the team through red tinted glasses and can’t see where we are as a team, i love cork and and will support to the end, but to think any of our players in the last 12 years have been the best among the country is just delusional really

Ian Maguire is probably the one player who does deserve an All star for his performances over the last 7 or 8 years. Powter and Brian Hurley would be in that category had they avoided even some of those injuries. I dont think anyone is deluded about how good or bad we are. Since being relegated from D1 we havent challenged for promotion and were in D3 for one season. The lack of All stars reflects the fact that we are a D2 side and have failed to reach the All Ireland semi finals since 2012, Since then Ireland has played Australia in two one-test home series in 2014 & 2015 and in a two-match away series in 2017. On each occasion there were at least two Cork players in the 22-25 man squad.

Yea it’s grand to say ian maguire deserves one, but what midfielders comes out? it’s very easy to say one of our players deserves to get in but if you look at the midfeilders that have been picked over the last 7 or 8 years do you honestly think maguire could get anywhere near the levels of them guys?
on your Aussie rules point, the squad is based on (kind of) the best available squad in the country, Key word there is AVAILABLE. yea cork players get on it but that still doesn’t mean they are among the best in the country
