Cork Footballers

Powter going travelling? I believe I read comments from him during year saying as much?
Ya I think it was after his graduation he said that in an interview that he would like to get out to Oz as he has family there.
I don't think he said when tho, I also vaguely remember in the interview he said he wants to settle in as a Dr first etc so we could be a few years off him going.

Every year in the off season tho Powters name is brought up as travelling/taking a year out or that he's injured etc

Need a 6
Fit Keeper
2 Half backs who can kick
another 2 Midfielders
Centre Forward
Target man on the Square.

will we get any of that . NO. Same players, same blind alleys , same Crab formation.

I all honesty I think our main problem and main focus is forwards.
Keeper and backs I've no issue with.

Colm O Callaghan a serious operator at midfield.
So only one midfield
Maguire becomes our centre forward then.

Our forwards then need to be coached on how to kick when they're open and kick with confidence a lot of our issue stems from forwards not wanting to kick the ball.
We have a target man in Hurley but he's too much of a target so when we can't get him the ball no one knows what to do.

Please tell me right now what, Division 1 team plays a slow Midfielder who can't kick at centre forward?
Hurley is closing in on 34 now and leaking diesel

Valid point tbf, I'd trial him there and see how we get on before making judgement.
I just don't think we have anyone else standing out who may be up for it.

Ya that's my point with Hurley, he's our only target and too much of a target.
Until the lads are coached into finding someone who's not Hurley or not coached to kick the ball themselves we're wasting our time

Spot on - we're lining out with one or maybe two lads in the front six capable or willing to kick the ball at target from more than 20-25m out. Needs to be addressed this winter/spring.

Needed more of a refresh tbh, Jim o’donoghue is a good addition but the big question is of Walsh can adapt to the new rules that are definitely coming for next year and I wouldn’t be sure at all, took them nearly 2 years to change the approach to kickouts and they returned to the stupid overload when Louth had us in trouble.
What the all Ireland has shown and with both Kerry and Dublin declining or at best standing still is that there is a real chance for any team in the top two divisions to get to a semi final at least.
The big change of 2 points for scores outside a particular zone will require major personnel change in the middle eight and this will be hard for a management team who have consistently picked athletes over footballers here
Amongst many concepts of play, Jim Gavin rigidly introduced that Dubs playing strategy that you don’t shoot outside 35 yds.

Presume Powter will be totally focused on driving Douglas to the Premier senior county?

That was to win all Irelands and I agree did more damage to football then mcguinness and the blanket yet one gets away with it due to the Dublin media monopoly.
However the terms of reference for this group are far different and it’s obvious from the trials already that long distance shooting as a first start will be encouraged

He'd be delighted with our lads - no shots from more than 20 yards!!
Getting close to goal all well and good if you have players running at speed and able to break the tackle or pass to teammate running a different angle at similar speed
