Cork Footballers

For the Railway Cup in 2 weeks time, these are the Cork players who are currently fit and out of club championship and available for selection if they opt in:

Kevin Flahive (Douglas)
Seán Powter (Douglas)
Seán Meehan (Kiskeam)
Darragh Cashman (Millstreet)
Ruairi Deane (Bantry Blues)
David Buckley (Newcestown)
Luke Fahy (Ballincollig)
Dan Ó Duinnín (Cill na Martra)
Jacob O’Driscoll (Valley Rovers)

I wonder would Cleary call up lads who were out with long term injuries but played in the club championship. For example:

Brian Hartnett (Douglas)
Nathan Walsh (Douglas)
Diarmuid Phelan (Aghada)
Tadhg Corkery (Cill na Martra)

The likes of Mallow, Éire Óg, Carbery Rangers, Nemo or Clon could be finished next week and may have players drafted in.

I'm not sure if John will bring any wildcards though as he is normally conservative with his selections.

Not many of those will be selected for a Munster selection. Your top 3 on the list possibly and Rory Maguire if Cleary can find a way to play him.

I heard Flahive has stepped away from the panel, work commitments. He owes cork nothing, he will be a massive loss. Haven’t heard anything about Powters future

surely cleary wont flog Powter and Meehan in that railway cup game with what they have gone through injury wise.

Do you think?

He’s been a useful player in my view but I’m not sure I’d categorises him as a massive loss.

Hopefully Powter stays put but I’m sure he mentioned his keenness to travel.

Perhaps it's just differing criteria for category classification. I'd consider Kevin Flahive to be a massive loss. He's been deservedly a nailed-on starter, and has performed against some of the best forwards in the game. He has demonstrated tremendous commitment when playing, and in the long recovery so well from his serious injury. Commitment is contagious. I have no inside insight, so I'm just observing from the stands. If true that he's stepped back then he certainly goes with my understanding that there's more to life than football, and my profound thanks for what he's given to us in Cork football (and I do hope it's temporary). Thanks Kevin, and best of luck (and hope to see you in a red jersey again).

I’d wait to see if this actually true, every year this poster Cork4sam tells us a player has stepped away, usually it’s powter he refers to and in this case flahive.
However in relation to the tenure of your post I would agree, I think he is a very good player

Hugh of what I have seen of him will be nowhere near the panel. Has been very poor past 2 years with Club and u20 with cork. Might have some chance if he does serious gym work over next 12 months . Management are meeting players individually these past few weeks . It will be interesting to see how many of the fringe players will come along as we have seen they are only being used as ball boys and unable to play league games with their clubs .
