Cork Footballers

So they were grand against Donegal and Tyrone but became a bad team against Louth?

We're a div 2 team who have beaten Roscommon and Donegal in the last two championships.

Cleary at least has made us some bit respectable.

Louth was a disappointment but it hards to account for a goalkeeper making a complete bollix of claiming a ball.

Firstly I think your comment re Kelly was both disgusting and irrelevant to the mistakes made by him. 9 times out of 10 a keeper gets a free out for the challenge for the goal, but similar to quirke in 07 sometimes these go in the forwards favour.
However while I hate the style we actually did well in the first half to go in with a lead and in the 2nd half we butchered at least 3 goals, gave away a howler and still got back level under difficult circumstances and i think we were trying to run down the clock to take a last pop at winning it but f*cked it up.

And absolute disaster yes but I think our last 2 championships have been decent and a significant improvement on the 10years previous. We got no hidings, we got no throwing the towel in and also showed courage to recover in the league too.
At the end of the day we are currently a division 2 team and need to support the team as they try to get back to the top table but that's a very long road with bumps on it,
Far more worrying is the underage performances and style.
Hurling seems to have got the underage right and the right types of players are emerging while football has gone backwards at an alarming rate.

Tomas O Se? Fuck off. That Kerry prick has no long term interest in anything other than himself or Kerry football. Now that he's within their system he won't be going anywhere else.

Leen (I know) had a piece in the examiner this morning about how Cork are far from the only ones without a Plan B if their current manager walks. It's not an issue unique to us, but we'd be foolish to think there's even "outsiders" in a position to take the job on worth going for. We're in a hurling province, it's not like Counties up the Country where good managers can hop across boundaries with relative ease.

Cleary isn't a fool. Defensively we were a joke when he took over, Kevin Walsh was the big part of sorting that out. Much like Galway with Walsh towards the end, it's now time to move things on if we're to progress. The overall set up wasn't remotely up to scratch, and the conditioning of the team was way behind two years years ago. They've shown this year that we're now firmly up there with the top sides on the that score. The best outcome here is Cleary staying on with a rejinked backroom team, especially a new "head coach" with a more contemporary take on things.

While good outside managers aren't really a goer imho, coaches are different, and this group is an attractive prospect to get involved with now. It's interesting that the likes of Walsh, Rochford and Cian O'Neill have been happy to go from being managers to being being coaches, which shows you can be fairly ambitious within bringing someone in.

People mention JFD, but to me he'd be best slotting into the job Counihan has just stepped away from.

I’d be surprised if Counihans post is re-filled.
What did he do for the last 5 years?

I also hope that a big restructuring of underage coaching in Cork is coming down the tracks. It will come if our Executive are good enough competent professionals.
Until that reorganimation is done we won’t know what persons are required to run it.

Yesterday was different.
We didn’t play as a team, some poor options taken at times & execution was off on those. Cork should have been 5+ points ahead at half time.
I kinda feel like a broken record but when you are only converting half your chances from play you won’t do against the better teams. This has been the big issue for years. Converting scoring chances- Cork had more shots yesterday but only got 47%, Tyrone 75%. It’s a fact that Cork have shooting stats similar to a Junior team.
Powter had a poor game (predictable after his media foray). Tyrone nullified Taylor by going man to man on him. And Brian Hurley was missing. Our 3 best players against Donegal.
Powter & Jones combined with 2 awful U12 mistakes to change the game in the 2nd half. In the 10 mins that followed Cork moved the ball quickly several times!!
This group has made progress. There are lots of positives too. I was hoping that we would show yesterday that we are good enough for the top 6 Tier but it looks like we remain in the 2nd tier of counties. We beat the odd Top team but not consistently.
Yesterday was a massive chance for Cork football to take a big step forward. Instead we were put back on our arses for the very same auld failings as always.
We will be relying on tomorrow mornings draw to give us a chance of lasting more than another week. Deja vu
Deja Vu

That he made a bollix of coming for the ball?

He did.

Gifting a goal to your opponent in a tight, low scoring game is unforgivable.
Whoops
Apologies I was referring to the 20kg comment, but that wasn't you 🤒 my bad.

Yes he did make a bollix of it.
But he also brought alot of positives to the position since he came in.
It's a fairly unforgiving position for mistakes as they are usually fatal
