Cork Footballers

Fair play to the coaching team, they got all they could out of the Cork team in my opinion. The kick-outs were the best I’ve seen for some time against Kerry, and kept us in a game where we shouldn’t have been. It was Martin’s best display against Kerry and he was very accurate for the most part. Dan O’Mahony and the defence were also excellent.

The disappointing thing is how many basic mistakes the senior players were making. We had senior guys going for hail mary shots or footpasses from frees into areas where there were 3 Kerry defenders on 1 Cork player. You had them slowing down the play by getting into shouldering competitions when we were chasing the game. You had senior players off the bench scoring great points and then the forward line completely negating it by switching off and allowing Kerry to go short in the kick-out. Serious lack of football IQ from the senior players.

Don’t think Gough favored any team but he was dreadfully poor. How can the Powter incident be a penalty when there are 3 Cork players between the Kerry lad and the goal? The crucial free Kerry got in the last five minutes was equally poor. He falls to the ground by himself. I’m sure Kerry fans could point to 4/5 equally soft frees Cork got.

1st half tactics fucked us. We need to set up properly from the go. Kerry are awful and Tally has them fucked. They will be opened up again.
They looked very ordinary, never looked as if they could go up a gear. If Clifford is held at all, they are vulnerable. We need to let the shackles off a bit. I'd sooner see them kick 50 wides than tame half kicked balls falling short or trying to walk the ball over the bar and turning it over time after time. Have a fucking cut. Fans will back any player who just goes out and goes for it.
