Connolly is the most talented footballer in Cork by a mile. His work rate isn’t huge but isn’t as bad as being said here. He can produce things that nobody else can, even Brian Hurley is more of a barrel through tackles type player. Giving Connolly a platform and cutting out his small stupid mistakes should be priorities, Cork are not in a position to cast him to the side. Same people here calling for him to be chopped from the panel are also calling for luxury players like Dineen and Òg Jones to be given a chance.

Produce what FFS, again someone here mentioned some of these players under a Gavin . They wouldnt last pissing time. You say Dineen and Og Jones , these fellas have barely played for Cork. Come on .

We all know the issues with Connolly, yet we all know how talented he is.

A former cork player and teammate of his with nemo has said he was the most talented but most frustrating player he has ever played with.

If anyone is going to get a tune out of him it’s Ricken, so let’s give the man a chance.
If it doesn’t work out, at least he tried.

Maybe last weekend against Kerry was his last chance, who knows.

If Ricken had cast him aside straight away we’d all be complaining saying “we need Connolly in the team he’s too talented to not have there” etc.. damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t.

That’s the point I’m making. Why would you get rid of someone who can change a game in favour of an unknown player who doesn’t have the physical frame or gifts as Connolly straight away? Diarmuid Connolly lasted long enough under Gavin, John Small who averages 2 red cards a year has lasted plenty of time, Mannion who drops on and off the panel when he wants a holiday…. A proven senior player with an obvious natural talent and high scoring rate who you can possibly stop making silly mistakes over a fellow who has scored a lot 5 grades below in the county championship and done nothing at a high level is the logic.

If McCarthy played a back as wing forward... The uproar there would be.

Last time I checked, modern wingbacks should easily be able to play wing forward aswell. If we ever want to compete with the Tyrone's, Mayo's, Kerry's of this world again, all our players whether corner back or corner forward need to be comfortable in defending and attacking. This nonesense if only the six forwards doing the scoring is gone with the last ten years. Every player should be able to kick scores and be comfortable kicking the ball 30/40/50 yards.

Its the biggest skill deficit it Cork as a whole, accurate foot passing isnt being coached well enough at club level, by the time a lad gets to intercounty level its often too late to coach these basic skills

Kevin O'Donovan played virtually his whole underage career as a forward. Indeed in CIT a couple of years ago he played Sigerson at wing forward and did well too. It pays to actually watch games before making uninformed comment.

Half forward and half back are much of the same anyway. His problem is a problem many of the current panel have - he is far too light. I don’t think he’s an intercounty standard player but not many of the current crop are.

You almost never catch a break with Cork football…new manager yet 4/5 of the more experienced won’t play ..Whites, Michael Hurley is only 25…at least Deane has experience…I just thin this team needs more of a mixture…Mark Collins?..and then a fella comes back from the AFL and goes to the hurlers..seriously …when things get tough against some of the bigger teams in Div 2 you need some experience and strength..they wilted against Kerry..dunno what is going to happen!

Cork had 4 midfielders in 2010 we have probably one now in Maguire...think Healy was the worst cork senior appointment ever followed by Mc Carthy set us back about 5 or 6 years!!!

People seem to forget that it was the current County Board that gave Ronan McCarthy a 2 year extension.
So they can't remain blameless.
Eventhough most on here didn't agree with this extension and were proved correct.
