I always thought the site at Tinkers Cross would be ideal for the swimming pool. It’s big enough for that and the tennis courts and even a scaled down park n ride. Mixed use could draw funding from different Government pots

Yeah, seemed perfect but they just started a 100k park development and I'd say it floods badly.

The Mayfield school has land behind it I'm sure they'd sell for the pool, it'd dovetail nicely with what is already there and they could guarantee access for their pupils.

That school must have better sports facilities than Christans or Pres and hardly any pupils

I'm slightly confused by that statement EG. Could you elaborate?

My understanding is both City Council and County Council are stake holders in RTC's Track? They sponsor the City Sports every year?
They could just invest Mardyke seeing as that's closed due to the condition it was in and then becomes Public Private Partnership.
Simple solutions there

The Pool is would be a huge additions to Cork City.

Tennis Courts are starting to be built in/with Parks - Clashduv have tarmac tennis and basketball courts.

Mayfield community school own Mayfield sports complex. It's not a council operation so currently a school of about 300 pupils plenty of whom are from a fairly disadvantaged have access to

1. 25m swimming pool
2. Fully Equipped Gym
3. Indoor hall for Basketball, Badminton etc
4. Hard court tennis court (being used for overflow parking)
5. Full sized AstroTurf pitches

What other school could boast that?

Incorrect, MTU own the track and there is some stake from the Athletics county board

UCC own Mardyke wholesale. And are looking for public money to maintain their own facility.

Two tracks are insufficient to meet demands of the city.

Particularly when neither are open to the public

But that's just a technicality isn't it EG? The sports complex is run as a separate company a bit like the way the Council owns Leisureplex. The kids don't have access to the pool, gym etc anymore than any other school. They have the pitch (singular) alright but mentioning the "tennis court" is just embarrassing.

Again it's my understanding that money is being put into it by both City Council and County Council along with the County Board and with both Councils that's why it is open to the public (you have to purchase a membership) but that's public to me.

UCC own Mardyke yes as I said but with money could become a Public/Private Partnership and then open to the public for membership.

Having a fully public track anyway would never work in my opinion hence why all GAA/Soccer/Rugby etc there are no real public pitches outside of Ballypehane GAA on Tramore Road which comes with it's disadvantages hence why they have moved onto Redmonds old grounds.

UCC is fully closed but I believe if open no reason why both tracks can't meet the demands of the city, with the little facilities we already have look at our Olympian Representation from Cork for track events. Says enough.

No. the principal of the school runs the complex. He outsources it to a manager but he could give his pupils as much access as he'd like. They get midweek gym access already if they want it.

The tennis courts are there just disused
