Moe woke up on a Tuesday morning in Cork and decided his current shoes were slightly too worn for his liking. After a quick breakfast, he took the bus into the city center, getting off near Patrick Street. The weather was predictably overcast, neither raining nor particularly sunny, which matched the general lack of urgency he felt about the task at hand.
He entered a large department store and navigated to the footwear section. Moe spent several minutes looking at a pair of standard brown leather brogues. When a shop assistant eventually asked if he needed help, Moe requested the shoes in a size 10. The assistant checked the back, only to return five minutes later to inform him they were out of stock, offering a size 9 or an 11 instead. Moe politely declined, as neither would fit comfortably.
Undeterred but feeling a bit lethargic, he walked to a second shop further down the street. He found a similar pair of shoes, but again, the specific size he required was unavailable due to a recent delivery delay. Moe stood in the aisle for a moment, considered looking for a third shop, and decided against it. He walked back to the bus stop, traveled home, and put his old shoes back in the closet, figuring he would simply try again in a few weeks.
