Cork city has gone to the dogs.

You see an old man knocked to the ground what are you going to do really but help him…When it happened I told one of them to fuck off before I’d flake him, even if I did give one of them a belt you would get done for GBH way society is gone…Sad World…When I got home I rang the guards in Anglesea street they said if you called it in we would have sent someone over and we will look at camera footage🤣
I'd be in town regularly in the early hours and some of the stuff you see from groups of drunk lads is ridiculous.

A few pints and they all think they're Rambo, but a mere push and they'd fall down like Bruno Fernandes in a gust of wind.

Idiots.

Pyongyang Park, by the people that brought us recent public amenities such as Robotic trees!
Don't get me started on the fuckin council's robo-trees while they're chopping down real trees

Besides, who the actual fuck goes into parks in the dead of night apart from junkies, drunks and people up to no good?

I think the root cause of that is weak local government in Ireland. All major and minor funding has to go through central government (fixing the Shandon clocks for example) and then local government is not funded properly to do the basics such as maintenance!!

The recent audits of council spending have shown us they have plenty of money...too much by the look of it...and a total disregard for any kind of financial responsibility.

Hanlon's razor says "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.", but in the council's case they're both.

I wouldn’t mind so much what goes on after dark, God knows none of us were angels on a night out…

What annoys me is that even during daylight hours town is rough out and getting worse for people going about their business..Take Middle parish as an example you have a lot of elderly people still living there and they need to go into city center to do their shopping but if they are shit scared to go out get a few messages what kind of society is this…

People wonder why town is dying as nobody would be bothered coming into the city when they don’t feel safe..Much easier to just go out to Ballincollig or Douglas or wherever in the suburbs to do your shopping..

The visible Garda presence on streets in the centre of town (during daylight hours at least) is great, but has had the effect of drivingthe crackheads, junkies and all the other scumbags a bit further out.

Which doesn’t stack up to logic when you consider the cost of having to clean the mess every morning.

There is no cost involved in a council worker who is already working in the centre opening a gate, there is considerable time and resources required to clean the whole park and get rid of graffiti
I don't disagree with you that the park should be closed at night, if you think there isn't an additional cost involved in getting a council worker to take on a new task, then you've obviously never dealt with the council 😉

Because they’d need to clean the park anyway.

We should be doing more to tackle those who vandalise our public spaces instead of locking them up behind gates imo.

Question is why do those youths end up the way they are getting kicks out of vandalism?

They fall through the cracks of society and we have no system for picking them out when things start to go wrong and issues can be nipped in the bud…20 years later they are homeless , addicted and jailbirds…

You’re not seeing the point, if it’s closed at night mess created and damage will be significantly less than if it was open all night. It worked fine like this for decades

I don’t know what is so difficult to understand about that.

Of course those who vandalise public space should be dealt with accordingly but that is a different conversation.
