Cork city has gone to the dogs.

Hard to believe

So they have power to stop cars going through there at certain times of the day, install crappy electric trees, make a dogs bollix of Bishop Lucy Park but can’t stop these money laundering facilities from popping up all over the place.
Would they be as powerless if they were all sex shops instead of vape shops I wonder?

As long as they are getting the rent, they don't give two fucks.

And even if its true there was no talk of a response

The obvious one being to press for a Legislative response from government to require licencing of vapes like we do for alcohol.

its a controlled item already. you can't sell to u18s should be relatively straightforward instead of "ah well there is nothing we can do"

Sex shops aside. I would suspect if the shops were old fashion tobacconists they wouldn't be allowed either.

It sounds like I can open one outside school too if I'd like.

They could surely introduce a bylaw ?
Bylaws have to be framed within the limited powers and laws that local authorities are given by central government.

In other words city council can't invent their own laws to ban or restrict vape shops unless there is legislation passed by Dáil Éireann to allow it.

Our local authorities are toothless compared to those in other European countries.

Yes but it's too easy for local government to shrug their shoulders and Say this is a Legislative issue for Central Government

Likewise Central government have a habit of blaming semi states or councils for not enacting their legislation.

you'd swear to God they are entirely independent and Cork City council couldn't at least begin to organise a formal request for the Dáil to introduce such legislation and have a reasonable expectation that they would be listened to particularly if a number of local authorities are saying the same thing.

And while were at it sort out some standards for Shop front signage for fuck sake

They could enforce something alright.
Off Licenses are subject to planning etc - how vapes cannot be included is a strange one - also how a lot of these shops sell drug paraphernalia.
I will stand corrected but is there not some sort of planning law/bylaw of saturation of market or saturation of a service?
Personally I think the council won't budge due to the rates these shops pay and also in turn makes the city look less derelict.
Building Dereliction % will be down on their reports so looks well then.

Cork City Council can and do have powers to introduce by laws - however as bylaw are only bylaw a company could take their planning application to higher powers to over-rule bylaw
