Cork city has gone to the dogs.

I was coming out of town last night in a taxi about 11.30, had a lovely old fella driving me home.

We were having a grand chat when coming up near the Southern star a taxi was pulled in with a women in her late 40’s was outside it, I assume getting sick by the state of her.

My taxi driver was watching the cars ahead and behind him getting ready to overtake the pulled in Cab when your one faceplants onto the road in front of us just as he’s about to overtake.

The woman was about 2 inch’s from getting her head rolled over, then another yoke came out of the cab to drag her onto the footpath.

Needless to say my driver was badly rattled by the whole ordeal, none of it was his fault.

How to people get themselves into these states?

Tough job driving a cab a these days!

I had a moment when I worked in a bar in town that still shakes me when I think about it.

We had a regular who'd come in a few afternoons a week. A well dressed, nice fella in his 40s, but he'd get himself into some states and I know there were hard drugs involved too.

We'd always serve him because he was a regular and a nice fella, but one day he was particularly fucked up and left of his own choice at around 8pm, it was still bright outside.

The pub is on a busy road. He fell out the front door and onto the road, in front of a bus. Only for the bus driver braking in time he was finished. And fuck knows what would have happened to me. Could have ruined my life.

I think I know the guy you’re talking about, well dressed fella very polite and a good man for drinking around Cork during the day.

Initials are CP. Very nice fella, but he used get into awful states.

I have no idea what has become of him. We were connected on Facebook but he's gone from that now and I haven't heard of him in years. I learned a lot from him, he had incredible music tastes and introduced me to a lot of things I still listen to today.

Ya I don’t know the guys name but the guy I’m thinking of is still around but I’d say has cleaned up his act a good bit

I'd be interested to know if bar staff get any training on how to deal with drunk customers and when to cut them off. And the potential risks of serving someone who is too drunk, and what might happen to them, and you.

I was barely shown how to pour a pint, never mind what to do with a drunk customer.

I served vodka shots to an underage guy when I worked in an Irish bar abroad. That was a scary night, he had to be carried out and it was all my fault.

I know of a fella in north Cork who was a fair man to sink pints on a daily basis,
He would cycle 3 miles to the pub and go a quieter route home to avoid the Gardai,
His luck ran out one day last year while cycling down a very steep hill he lost control and ploughed into a wall , R.I.P

I had the exact same experience in that pub many years ago ,one inch between the guys head and a double decker bus ,(I’m assuming a narrow footpath near an old bridge.
