Cork city has gone to the dogs.

There were discarded syringes on the footpaths of the Dyke Parade, the UCC entrance on Gaol Walk, the Lough Church front gate, Barrack St. near Tom Barry's and on Tuckey St. near Soma Coffee on my jaunt this morning.

I'm seeing them everywhere at the minute but never a many as that over the course of 5km.

Alas they've been around UCC/Mardyke for a couple of years now. From Vincents Bridge up the river along the "Lee Banks Walkway" (Distillery Field) to the skate park has been drug-city-central for a couple of years with plod doing the square root of f**k all about it 😞

Anthoer car went on fire in the car park. Sounds like they caught this one on time thankfully.
Nice to see the fire detection and sprinkler systems, as well as of course the fire crews doing an excellent and proper job.

How that place was originally built without fire detection and sprinkler systems is beyond me

Id say this meeting was a ball ache for the cops to attend. Citing 4 new walking wardens will help, what about normal Gardai walking the streets! Is that too much to ask now!
And the Ceo for Simon on, that would have been interesting describing the trail of destruction led by the scores of fellas out of their heads from Oliver plunket Street all the way up to Clayton. Its not rocket science to see whats happening. Unless Simon goes somewhere else all that area will be a no go zone.

4 walking wardens, FFS they would need 40 of them.

there’s a designated public order warden group here in sweden. they work with limited police powers but can make arrests, confiscate drink, act as security and so on. basically police but without the weapons.

anyway, they’re usually hired by private companies such as the rail system, the local football club, festival organisers and even the local council to keep an eye on things and act as security thereby freeing up the actual police to go out and do their job properly.

there’s around 7,000 or so of them and about 20,000 police in the country with twice the population of ireland. how many gardaí in ireland? people here complain how there aren’t enough police but there’s a very visual presence anytime i’m in town or out and about at work.

from the outside looking in its clear ireland is under policed so i can only imagine what it’s like to live it.

Don't think it was a planning requirement at the time.

I've a vague recollection of the time that they built the extension to the Mercy Hospital with the building overhead a street-level car-park it was no sooner built than they realised the car-park couldn't be used becuase of insufficient/inadequate fire prevention in materials and sprinkler system.

As you say, great that the sprinkler system got a real-life test and came through with flying colours.

Electric Car I think - wonder if it was a battery issue.

You would have to think it was a battery issue, Not great PR for the EV lobby
