Cork city has gone to the dogs.

=====

"I'm in a bit in shock, because I did a first aid course with the other girls in the Kindness Krew which we paid for ourselves just in case.

"We were taught how to do CPR on the course, and I’ll be honest with you, I hope I never have to use it again, but I suppose if I do come across somebody, you just go into overdrive and just get on with it."

Ms Barrett said that this type of incident is not a common occurrence in Cork, but she added that the situation has gotten "very rough" in the city over the past fortnight.

"There is no garda presence around the city, very little, only if there’s trouble over the road or in the town, you would hear the guards passing by.

"But we would never have a garda presence around Patrick Street to be honest with you."

====

It’s only the main street in the city like.

That's absolutely mental like. A woman, on our main street.

RIP.

I always feel uneasy walking past that thing by the Savoy and the one by BT. I know the volunteers are doing their best and there are a lot of needy people, but it's tense at the best of times. It should really have a Garda presence if there isn't already one.

Again serious questions on the policing of cork city, those volunteers set up at the same place at the same time every night and it’s an obvious place for potential trouble because of the congregation of people with serious issues, why would you not ensure there is a police presence at these times? At some stage the politicians are going to have to hold Garda management to task on how resources are spread nationally and then how cork city is policed, the city centre is relatively small and close we have 2 stations within it, it’s hardly beyond the realms of reason at this stage that a permanent presence of on the beat gardai can’t be maintained within these areas? I understand all tue nonsense the Garda unions talk about when it comes to resources etc but 4-6 gardai on the beat around corn city centre at night is surely within the gift of the current resources, why is it not happening

Agreed, there was a time up to not so long ago whereby the 4 Cork City Garda districts had respective resources and more or less looked after their own areas.
A new system was set up, which may have in order to get more out of all the resources combined.
So it is not beyond possible now that the Mahon patrol car could be dealing with a call in Knocknaheeney while their car is in Douglas etc.

The Fire Brigade mentality has to be removed from these conversations as it is extremely rare that Gardai actually respond from stations as akin to Fire services responses. So it is immaterial where a Garda station is as such.

There should be Gardai on the beat in the City Centre constantly, the detterent just is not there anymore.

Close down those stupid street based kitchens. Nothing but trouble.
