No doubt she feels a huge burden of guilt over the whole thing. Unfortunately something like this can happen in the blink of an eye however well supervised a child is. A nephew of mine got a prick from a discarded needle a few years back after putting his hand down to pick up a ball on the communal green in the estate they live in. The particular area wouldn't be known for shooting up as it were but I guess discarded needles can be found anywhere.
Not sure Prison would make him any worse tbh, it might teach him the valuable lesson that you can’t just randomly attack people without there being serious consequences.
