BREAKING:

A man is in a critical condition after the motorbike he was riding was rammed by a car in Cork this evening.

The incident unfolded on the N20 Flyover near Blackpool Shopping Centre , when a car carrying a number of people struck the motorbike.

It is understood the driver and a number of passengers fled the scene immediately after the collision, leaving the injured motorcyclist behind.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, where the man was treated before being taken to hospital with extensive injuries.

Gardaí have sealed off the area and have launched a major investigation.

Officers are examining whether the incident is linked to a violent assault in Ballyphehane last Tuesday night, during which a man was savagely attacked by a group of men on Pearse Road.

The North Ring Road remains sealed off as Garda forensic investigators carry out a detailed examination of the scene..
