Cork city has gone to the dogs - official crime thread

In the 70's it wasn't uncommon to see sorries and norries march to the carpark that was on Sawmill Street to have a scrap with each other.

A few serious threats would be thrown while telling friends to 'hold me back before I kill him' and then we'd all march off again claiming we had won.

I actually remember them,it was like the war of the buttons crossed with gangs of new York and every one knew kung fu or hoo-gee-pah,there was even a sorrie incursion to bells field in that time

The Garda were pretty active that night too, battered everyone in sight, bottles were stored in the old Beamish brewery for ammo, McCurtain St was dodge central, absolute chaos outside the taxi booths, Punks rioting outside the Arcadia, Bonfire night was a guaranteed mini riot somewhere, a fair few “incidents” at City matches, a few “incidents” at Cork GAA matches.
Cork has utterly changed. We used to be an industrial city, dockers, steel workers, etc.
There’s none of that shit anymore. Biggest problem is what to do with a few dozen chronic drug addicts that hang around the city centre.
They should remake “The Warriors”, Cork style

“Norries, come out to play-ee-eayyy”

Do you know what one of the biggest issues facing Cork City businesses is?

The fucking seemingly eternal closure of Trinity Bridge.

It is some fucking pain in the bollox having to walk down to either Parliament Bridge or that one by the City Hall to get into town. It literally doubles my travel time to town.

I estimate it's costing the City Centre ca. €205k a week.

And you can be sure this won't be opening again any time soon.
