Surely that Heathrow 7am flight is one of the busiest.

The only saving with the Manchester failure to the USA was it's a separate company so hopefully any of the financial impact will be minimal. Same can't be said for the ongoing fuel impact

Well it was Aer Lingus UK, but surely that disaster had to have some financial implications for them.

Aerlingus UK has been wound up but I imagine the impact might be on the aircraft having been taking out of circulation from Irish routes.

I’d say the only thing stopping the Dublin Airport Authority from trying to make Cork Airport just a small seasonal airport just doing holiday flights are the valuable landing slots in Heathrow.
If they could ever transfer those to Dublin then Cork Airport would become little more than a depot for the inter-airport busses

It's the fact that Cork is a base and everything that comes with that. Engineers aren't cheap.
I imagine Shannon is a base and they'll never take the base away from Shannon as it's got the long haul aircraft so what odds on having a few A320s on their schedule.

The term Base in the airline industry means that an aircraft is as such based at a respective airport
Current Aer Dumplin has 3 of their A320's based in Cork.
The talk is that will at the very least go down to 2 this winter, which we be based here.
There is likely to be further cuts.

Willie Walsh, formerly of Aer Lingus and IAG, said yesterday that the airline needs to cut costs and increase margins if it is to have a future in IAG. That will inevitably lead to closing bases and reducing the size of existing smaller bases.

Cork airport has done extremely well over the last 10 years but it should accept what it is. An airport for sun holidays and UK cities with a limited European offering that it should seek to grow.

Yup - but the DAA set the ground rules up there and can make it more or less advantageous for Airline companies. Remember when Ryan Air wanted to make Cork Airport and the old terminal a hub but the Dublin AA said no sireee bob!
