Guinness is the Budweiser of stouts - a triumph of marketing and brand over any inherent qualities. It's grand like but both Murphys and Beamish are superior products!

Funnily enough back in the 1980s Guinness was the best stout of the three for flavor. It's manky now though.

Guinness is seen as something uniquely and pure Irish. But the Guinness family themselves were staunch unionists and gave their trucks to the British in 1916 to be used as armoured cars.

That's why we should drink proper Republican drinks like Murphy's and (ahem) Beamish...

Must admit I'm surprised at the upswing in Beamish - obviously moving to the Northside improved it greatly.

But apart from that for it to be outselling Murphys by 4:1 is extraordinary. My kids seem to like Beamish now. A whole new generation of drinkers of something that used to be 20p cheaper to encourage stout drinkers to drink it.

Guinness is without doubt one of the most over-hyped products on the market. Certainly they've the best marketers and far from the best product.

The only impact moving to the Northside had on Beamish was increased profit margin due to the cheaper labor up there however one would wonder how much of that % margin was mitigated through theft of the product

There's probably around 80c of a difference between the price of Beamish and the other stouts, so that's a factor.

What always surprises me is the amount of younger women who drink Beamish, while you never see women drink Guinness.

The "artistic" types around town all drink Beamish.

Then you have the pensioners who also go for it over Guinness.

In my local Beamish and Coors are by far the best sellers. They only have Murphys for one or two regulars who drink it. Then Guinness just tips away and looks after itself. Some nights you could have everyone in the house drinking it.

Thats amazing - I enjoy a pint of Guinness like the next man but Ive always said it doesn't hold a candle to Beamish for flavour, Guinness tastes like a beer that has been watered down or made more bland to appeal to the masses

I wouldn't have believed those sales proportions though only its from yourself!

Yet to get a pint of Clockwork, MOE has done such a stellar job promoting it I'm mad to give it a lash but just haven't had a chance, or it hasn't been available where I was. I spotted it in Sheehans off Grafton St last weekend but we were on one final stop after a clatter of pubs following the hurling so wouldn't have been the right time!

The sweetness of the water from Lady's Well would obviously be lost on a southside yahoo such as yourself

As with all stouts, you need a draw. If everyone in your pub is drinking Guinness and nobody touching Murphys then obviously...........you need to move to a different pub. Simples!
