Yeah I get it, there are some complete psychopaths and sociopaths out there that can't be fixed. I just don't think electrocuting them to death, hanging them or poisoning them to literally within an inch of their lives achieves anything even remotely positive.
Any state should show some leadership in how citizens should treat each other.

The governor of that state standing in front of the media and world "apologizing" for not killing a citizen correctly is fucked up and a metaphor for
American stupidity and moral bankruptcy in my view.

And I kind of don't at the same time. I'm very conflicted when it comes to the death penalty. It is something I've changed my mind on a million times throughout my life.

I also just don't think ridding the world of some very evil people is a terrible thing.

But because we're human and we make mistakes, I would be against the death penalty for that reason.

Yeah it's a deep question but one of the good things about it being the 21st century and understanding past trauma is that we understand why people do horrible things. It doesn't excuse or justify them but when you see how completely fucked up her childhood was, especially two brutal rapes, there's no predicting how children will go to behave as adults. Our own courts are full of cases of perpetrators who were victims themselves.

I note she was 18 years old when convicted. One of the "positives" cited about execution is that there's a saving for the state. Thirty plus years on in this case and US tax players are still paying for her incarceration and now her intensive care (which by the way it wouldn't surprise me if they try to charge her family knowing the US healthcare system)

I'm against the death penalty mainly on the basis of it's too quick an out for anyone who actually deserves it.

But some people need to be taken out asap. It would've done the world no good to keep Saddam or Gaddafi hanging around (heh).

As much as I'd love for Putin to spend the next 20 years dying roaring, alone in solitary confinement, he needs to be executed yesterday. Though in this case of course that decision should be left to the Ukranians.

Prison guvnor has resigned after the debacle

She has recovered consciousness and is speaking. The "experts" said she was brain dead and expected to turn off her life support. She survived two lethal doses one in each arm and they were trying to kill her for an hour before they gave up and called for medical assistance. No matter how grevious her crimes this botched attempt to kill her was utter barbarity. The drug used in the attempt to kill her, Pentobarbital, is routinely used by Vets to euthanise animals. When used intravenously it is very effectctive and results in a quick and painless death. However if used incorrectly and leaks into surrounding tissue it causes excruaciating pain, burning and necrosis of tissue, I am pretty sure the executioner tried for the femoral in one arm, failed and injected the drug into the arm tissue and then injected a second lethal dose into the tissue of the second arm. Because absorption of the drug is slow from tissue a lethal blood level would never be reached as the liver and kidney removed the drug from the system. So much for The "experts" who said that she was brain dead. This woman has been subjected to mental and physical torture (30 years on death Row} and both her arms must be now destroyed by necrotic effect of the drug. A truly fucked up country!
