China has used diplonacy to restore ties between the Gulf kingdom and Islamic republic. Saudi Arabia an ally of America had been enemies with Iran for years, the Shia Sunni divide across the region in neighbouring Iraq, the Iranians arming the Houthi's in Yemen and supporting the Syrian gvt and Hezbollah militia in Lebanon against pro Saudi Sunni groups. The rivalry was described as a new cold war with fear that Iran would provoke a nuclear arms race in the region, coming days after an agreement was reached with the IAEA to inspect nuckear facilities.

Far better for the two countries to be cooperative however oppressive they are than engaging in an arms race, one country that won't be happy with this is Israel.

Also the IAEA has reached an agreement with unlike the situation with Russia and North Korea.

Funny if the US had agreed a deal between a country like this it would be portrayed differently like when Pres Obama had a positive relationship with Cuba before Pres Trump came in and undid that or when Biden maintains good relations with Egypt a military dictatorship that has a pretty bad human rights record.

It is good that the two biggest muslim countries are not wanting to blow each others brains out kind of like how Venezuela and Colombia are restoring relations with each other so too Zimbabwe and South Africa and Turkiye and Syria, countries can get on fine without US and EU tutelage.

They may not be the biggest countries population wise but geopolitically they are the dominant ones and posters on here don't see the positives of ending conflict between them.
