Center Parcs is coming - is Trabolgan under threat?

The giant new Center Parcs resort is opening, deep in a forested setting, up in Longford in May.

Has anyone seen the adverts on TV for this huge themed all inclusive resort? There are several Center Parcs in the UK, Holland, France and Germany.

It looks like it might be very popular with families.
Families with money, that is. Lots of it. €565 for 3 nights for a family of four in their forest chalets. And that’s the “cheap” off season deal. Pretty steep.

The centerpiece will be a vast subtropical pool and sports Centre with activites galore.
I wonder if our own Trabolgan, over 30 years going now, and like a micro version of Center Parcs, will feel the pinch.

Or can the two places co-exist?

You answered this in the OP m8, when you said its for families with money.
Trabolgan is for families with no money.

I see peaceful coexistence ahead.

Ridiculous prices to be fair. Who wants to cough up that sort of coin for a wet holiday in Longford?

The only bit of Longford people will see is on the road in and out. Those places are designed to keep everyone under one roof for as long as possible. Very few, if any people that want to go will say “it’s Longford it’ll be shit” and not go

The €565 for a family for 3 nights is, believe it or not, actually one of the cheapest packages available. It’ll cost about €700 or €800+ for a couple of days at the height of the summer, when the sprogs are off school. It sounds extortionate!

I mean couldn’t ya get a package sun holiday in the Costa Del Sol or Greece for about the same?

You leave your car at the car park and everything is laid on - but wait...you have to cough up even more for all the activities. Only the tropical pool/water zone and the chalets (“lodges”) are included in the price.

It’s a completely self-contained resort. You need never leave whilst staying there. In fairness, being Longford, would ya want to? They’re aiming at not just the Irish market (Ballymahon forest is about a 90 min drive from Dumpland and about 3 hours from Cork) but the Brits too, which have had the Center Parc resorts since the 90s.

At least it’ll being plenty of minimum wage jobs to a county decimated with unemployment and little else going for it.
