Car Insurance query

I was involved in an accident today, An elderly lady pulled out of a service station onto a main Rd without looking, I couldn't stop,
Ploughed into her drivers rear wing, both cars written off, A second earlier i would have gone straight through her driver side door,
My car is 2013 but in very good condition and driving very well,
Am I snookered here? Will i only get the market value of the car?possibly 4k max,
Is it fair that I will have to now buy a car and be at a severe loss financially?
@Matlock or anybody else who can advise

Glad you’re ok first and foremost JimmY
You are right about the value you will get for your car, that’s prob all you’d have got as a trade in also but at least you had a choice

I've known someone to slightly exaggerate a minor injury for this reason,.I'm not condoning but do understand that it's not fair that you will never be able to get like for like with their valuations

It seems unfair, I planned on keeping it for another 3 years or so, I know at that stage id have got nothing but now I have no choice but to buy, It has shaken me to realise that out of absolutely nowhere something like this can happen, She just drove straight onto the main Rd, The poor woman was full of apologies to me as she was led into the ambulance,

My granny came home very distraught today.. Coming out of a garage today in her brand new BMW some crazy bastard in a 13C rust bucket ploughed into her as he was driving like a bat out of hell. Caused terrible damage. At least €50,000 worth. Not to mention the fact that he acted and spoke to her in a northside accent.
Kept going on about his beautiful car. She said it wasn’t even NCT’d or taxed.

I know she was coming out of a junction but she doubts this ruffian was even insured.

Matlock, have you any advice for my granny? Her nerves are shot to hell.

Hope you’re okay. You’d get a bad fright after even a simple crash like that. Do you have comprehensive insurance? Did the airbag go off? I’d imagine that for a car valued at 4k car it probably wouldn’t make much sense to repair it from the insurance company perspective.

Was the driver wearing a Leeds jersey?

Surprisingly the airbag didn't deploy, They will definitely write it off. Surprisingly as well that I wasn't breathalysed,

If it cost less than 4k to fix it they possibly would but if it cost say 5k they’d rather settle and give you the value of the car. You could take the money and if you knew someone in the trade who’d fix it for less you might consider it but if the chassis is damaged you should forget about it.

Like dreams Leeds fans have of ever winning a major trophy ever again.

Now if you were injured as a result it might put a different perspective on it.
