Ah, it’s starting to cost me money now Fed. I’m not one for wanting new cars but there comes a point when you are throwing good money after badUnless she's banjaxed beyond repair then you're off your trolley.

Having lived there 20 yearsI’m going to need to buy a new car in the next few months - I always hear about people going to the north and saving a decent amount or getting a better/newer car for the same money. How does it work, Is it worth the hassle and what’s involved with the whole VRT scene?
Can you trade in a southern reg car with these guys?
They buy in auctions as job lots etc,There's a car sales place on the Dock Road in Limerick, Enterprise Cars (?) all their cars are UK reg, they must have some way of importing them and selling at a good price, or else they probably wouldn't source cars there.
Don't Kearys do something similar? Might save you a load of agg, travel, paperwork and expense.?
No loopholes anymore worth pursuing unless you’ve 12 months to spare,A fella told me that there is some loophole that if a car is imported from the UK as a company car, i.e. it was a company car in the UK.
There are loads of fellas down by Rosslare all over it. they do deals with UK dealerships to take the VAT qualifying car, so VAT is only paid once so. not quite as good but worth considering
I have no idea if this is actually the case but it's probably enough to warrant a google/check on done deal for fellas in Wexford.
Maybe someone on here actually knows though
Is she like a 15 year old 2litre diesel? It cant be costing more than a grand a year on repairsAh, it’s starting to cost me money now Fed. I’m not one for wanting new cars but there comes a point when you are throwing good money after bad
Having lived there 20 years
And brought a few down.
Cant see anyone taking a free state car in as a trade in unless going to a border town,
Even then I doubt it.
Difference in sterling is another block.
You’d definitely need to do your homework ref VRT etc,
Tbh I’d look at a jap import before a NI car,
It’s not just Toyota or Honda/ Suzuki anymore,
Ford / Beeners etc are to be hit also
I'm sure you're rightNo loopholes anymore worth pursuing unless you’ve 12 months to spare,
If you’ve an address in the 6 counties or the uk u can use
One long drawn out way is tax it in your name ,
Insure it ( both up there)
Export it in 12 months time acrosss the border.
Little or no vrt then.
Can only be done once- unless all this has changed,
I’m back home since 99
