Bus Eireann.

Good Afternoon Cobber's,
What is the story with Bus Eireann? The new CEO is saying the company is fucked but the Union's are saying it's all down to cuts to funds to the services.
I tend to use buses a lot in Cork and think it's a good service and the drivers are polite and helpful.
What do you guys who are more local than me think?

There was a FG td on the radio saying if they put a surcharge of 6 Euro on the free travel pass then it would be solvent again.

Is there any limits on the Free Travel Pass in Ireland? Can you only use it at certain times during the day and are the passes limited to your general area or can you use them nationwide?

They can be used all day every day throughout the Republic.
You can also apply for one to use when visiting Northern Ireland.

Fuck it, the pensioners were the only major demographic to see their wealth grow throughout the great recession and yet, because they're more likely to vote they kept on getting allowances and raises from the Gov, 50 euro surcharge, surely 50 euro per year for unlimited travel is more than fair and something all of them can afford.

What is going on in Bus Eireann is that they tried but simply cannot compete with private sector competitors.
Expressway is a Commerical arm of Bus Eireann and it competes with the likes of Aircoach.
So a semi state is dealing with reality and guess who cannot cope? Yes the semi state. The driver of the Aircoach bus is probably on half of what the Bus Eireann guy is on when entitlements and pensions etc are factored in.
Commerical reality is coming to fruition here and the unions are shitting themselves.
