Dublin is miles ahead of Cork however I wouldn’t agree it’s exceptionally well served. The DART is fantastic if you’re living on the coast.I think someone from An Bord Pleanala said on the radio that they've already completed their planning stage which took 3 years and a day or 3 years and two days, he wasn't quite sure.
But the point is Dublin already exceptionally well served in terms of public transport is getting a brand new one. There's suburban railway stations being served out in Dublin; they've DART and they've Luas. Cork is still behind the 8 ball over 40 years on after dublin got DART and our suburban stations are long since closed down.
If you look at the Cork LUTS plan it spoke of much larger populations being in Cork but that was obviously stymied because of lack of investment in infrastructure down here compared to the sinkhole in the east of the country that has everything dragged into its gravitational pull.

Connolly station has severe congestion problems and the Luas is well over capacity for a large part of the day.
We’re catching up but we will never match Dublin. Dublin has a hinterland of 1.5 million people. Its commuter belt stretches to Dundalk and Portlaoise.
