Bishop Con Lucy Park

Frank O'Connor was never going to like it but the removal of all the grass seems a bit much alright. Maybe they'll have markets and events there.

It looks exactly like the design except shot on a miserable day in November. Hardscaping is done, main trees remain, planting might be done early next year when it makes sense.

In any case, biodiversity is something you do down in a re-wilded farm in rural Cork, unless you think bees like Hillbillies.

I’d imagine Cork City centre was never grass to start with given much of it was canals and reclaimed from the harbour, might explain lack of green spaces since. It does have said big harbour and two rivers going through it though, these things have had orcas and otters in them. Very nice spaces up around UCC as well.

On my walk in to work earlier I diverted through BLP. It wasn't quite as bad as I'd feared having read some reviews but whoever thought it would be good to put a strip of grass atop the remnants of the Old City Wall needs to be shot with balls of his own compacted shit.

Rather than making it a feature they've tried to camouflage it and then they'll need to put machinery on it to maintain it - didn't look like artificial grass to me though I didn't scrutinise it closely.

Overall there seem to be much more seats for people to sit on, and much fewer spaces for winos and ne'erdowells to sprawl themselves out on the grass openly drinking cheap cider and smoking dope.

I still don't get what the large n shaped structure inside the SMS side is about to be honest, nor the reason to remove the old gates on the Grand Parade side. 🤷‍♂️

You seem to be hinting that they intend to plant in the Spring (did they say which Spring) which would be a good thing to brighten it up imho - at the moment the place looks a bit desolate. But hopefully they'll plant more trees in there as well to dial down the moonscape look
