Belfast - Genuine Question

This is nonsense.

Loyalists are scum, and should be neutered, but this isn't real at all.

You'll see loads of free state reg's driving around.
Agree.

I was up there last year.

It's very safe. The tourism element of the troubles is big business. Sign the peace wall and all that shit. It'll be maintained for that reason alone

Way more overt hens and Stag type stuff like the pedalling bar than you get elsewhere, outside of the mainland of course.

We've been planted in more ways than one.

Staff everywhere were sound

I think it just depends on where you go. Find out where the loyalist areas are and just avoid them. Everywhere else will be completely fine.

In Belfast you have the two extremes, and outside this you have the majority of people who are absolutely sound and just want to get on with their lives. I always come away from Belfast almost feeling guilty for doubting them, because there's always a great welcome. They all cheer for the same rugby team as us like, we're not as different as we may think.

I'm heading to Beflast for a couple days next week with the kids. Never been before and wondering if it's safe to take my car up there as it's a C reg. Will it be targeted? Is that still a thing? Or is it safer to get the train?
Depends on area, 6 years ago I was up. Usual googled nearest shop drove there and place was covered in Union Jacks/Orange order flags. Young fellas across in estate picked up on it, hoods went up. Intimidation more than anything.
Shopkeeper picked up on accents - not even a price, please or thanks when paying.
Was up again about 3 years ago and not one issue or intimidation etc.

All down to areas as I said.

By all means if heading to falls road you'll be treated like royalty (pardon the pun), GAA/O' Neills tops ok there but if going on a black cab tour or your own solo adventure leave the GAA/O' Neills clothes in bag.

We spent a few days in Belfast a few years ago. Zero issues with the car. We stayed near to the QUB/Botanic Gardens area. We were in a rented house with on-street parking.

Belfast is great...

My son's friend is a barman who moved up there. They met Kneecap in the Hawthorn and hung out with them and they're providing them with VIP tickets for the Crystal Palace gig.

Very intelligent lads apparently.

Had first visit to Belfast last year. Was iffy in case the southern accent might have me going home minus a kneecap.
Stayed in the much bombed Europa hotel and I really enjoyed it. Locals very friendly and folk from all over the world in the streets.
Paying in sterling is only drawback.

We were the same. Stayed there in 2022 I think.

I did stop my kids from wearing their cul camp stuff while we were out sightseeing though, which I have never done anywhere else! I am sure it would generally have been fine, but didn't want to risk them getting abuse from some gobshite.

I was witness to one horrible unionist bigot being really rude and aggressive to a young black man who was serving him in a shop. That was the only negative experience.
