Biggest meetings you’ll ever attend! And the only ones that start with everyone being thanked for attending and working on the project!
Sweet Jesus, 16 at the meeting, 4-6 actually needing to be there and doing work, all of whom have no time for the meeting taking twice the length of time it needs to. Some craic with the introductions then.. Hello all, I am the:
'Monitoring XYZ' - ie the CS who is being paid to do the job one of the consultants at the table is doing for them and will take all of the credit for it, once it goes well. You will have somewhere between 1 and 4 of these sitting there silently
'APO' - a clerical person who has had a number of 'service' related promotions, notionally overseeing the project but has no expertise in the project as they have no background in what is being delivered - they report to more CS's up the chain and are pissed off that they don't have an office anymore, unlike them
'PO' - the APO's boss because they have worked in the CS for longer. They have an office and a smug look on their face, but no expertise in the project as they have no background in what is being delivered. They implement department budgets and things.
'Admin/support' - ie. the person who will minute the meeting since it is not possible for one of the other 6 CS's to do it even though the are doing little. These minutes will need to be approved by those guys though
'Principal or Assistant Principal of the department' - These guys are professionals from the actual field but have given that up in favour of politics. They will generally listen for about 5 minutes, then interject, take the floor, apologise for being rude and explain that they have another meeting to be at.. and then say things like 'we need boots on the ground', 'visible progress' and 'it just needs to happen'. They will also remind everyone that they are answerable to the minister who is taking heat from another minister.. and this trumps everything regardless of what is about to be explained to them.
I'm off to one of these at 2pm
