Autism

Sad to report our 13 year old has stopped going to school the past two weeks, He did have a cold prior to that and was out two days,
Hence his routine is out, The school sent a family liason man to our house last week but to no avail, We are resigned to the fact he may not go back,
But he will be cut off completely socially, He hasnt left the house in over a week now,
I have told herself not to buy him anything for xmas. My attitude is he cant have it both ways, But herself says it would make matters ten times worse,

Sorry to hear Jimmy, must be so tough on all of you

Like other posters have said, your wife is right, Christmas might be that time to reestablish connections with your son

Also take some time for yourself as well

I have an autistic daughter and she can be a handful some days and can stress me out and her too

Sometimes we have to take a step back and breathe

Like yourself, the PROC is a welcome relief

jimmy - I would never tell any parent how to deal with their own children and especially because every autism diagnosis is different with a unique set of challenges..........

I wouldn't take out Christmas presents.

One thing has nothing to do with the other and connecting them will make zero sense to your child.
Not going to school could be because of sensory processing disorder or sensory overload. Christmas is utterly unrelated to that and tying presents to it won't impact attendance at school.

I'd try to root cause the attendance as its own challenge.

You might find that having a great Christmas might reset the outlook, calm and settle with respect to the presumed stress of school and maybe make it possible to reintroduce school even for a few hours a day.

Just my opinion...only trying to help.....

Lads I just want to say I'm very proud of the support ye give each other on this thread. I'll even give credit to the usual suspects for not acting the bollox on it too. Glad to see there's still some boundaries.

I've only minimal dealing with autism through a nephew but since then as far as I'm concerned his parents are the biggest heroes I know. I'm bate out raising a very easy child. Ive so much respect for those of ye that have to dig so deep every day.

I hope ye have a good Christmas and next year will be even better.
