Autism

A bump in the road on tuesday with our lad, Refused to go to,school, brought back memories of two years ago when he was out for four months,
Said he was tired, We are blue in the face from trying to get him off technology at night, Have plugged out the wifi box and he goes beserk, Not
all kids react in a calm measured fashion, We managed to get throught to him tuesday night and he switched of 9pm and got a decent sleep,
He was up and out the door yesterday and this morning fine and early, Fingers crossed it continues in that manner,
Technology affects so many families now, A friend of mine got up to go to the toilet recently at 2am, Saw a light from his 15 year old daughters
room Looked in and she was on her phone,
Is he stimming any more than usual Jimmy, along with his want for the electronic device?

Yes, Camhs say he does not have ADHD,
I won't comment on CAMHS!!
What you're saying is a strong marker for ADHD, which can be lazily overlooked if already a diagnosis of Autism.
There are some online basic tests you can fill out.
However with just limited information I may be totally wide of the mark.

Thank you, Yes we feel the same about Camhs, not too impressed, My wife is anxious to get him on medication but i am not, I suppose that happens
in so many families

Medication obviously has pros and cons. It can be beneficial in getting younger people who are unable to properly understand or express what they are feeling, into a place where they can begin to be centred. I wouldn't fear medication, but I would advise using it as a scaffold to bring in other means such as exercise, regulating etc.

Sorry to hear Jimmy and it’s tough going but you are doing your best

Situation is kind of similar with my one, she is diagnosed ASD and we find it very hard to get her off the iPad in the evening.

We use a very simple trick, put an egg timer near her and tell her 5 mins left and she does manage to turn off the iPad when it rings.

We have a mixed experience of CAMHS jimmy. One very good therapist but it's like pass the parcel with the psychiatrists, lost count of the number she's seen. Was the same as you with the meds but she went on them in the end. Been a lot of trial and error and while we still can't get her out the door to school most days she is definitely less manic. This is of more benefit to the other kids than her tbh.

Thanks lads, Technology affects so many families whether the kid has a diagnosis or not, We adults are not blameless here,
How many of us make an effort to stay off he phone while the kids are present? Monkey see, monkey do,
