Artificial Intelligence. How far away is it?

Got given a very old google maps js library to bring back to life. Every possible jquery dependency in there and all.

Tried first to give it to AI and say make this vanilla js there la and the hoor tried to rewrite the entire logic and everything. Hallucinated like a mofo. I'm having to nearly feed it function by function with the strict instructions on to leave the fucking thing alone and just replace the jquery stuff. I'd nearly be faster doing it manually.

now to be fair to it, the original is a mess of spaghetti code but still like...

I suppose there must be a rake of jQuery stuff still hanging around? The cobol of the js era.
Not my area at all so maybe I'm talking shite.

I had AI create code for me to manipulate a csv file, it did a decent job but every time I ran it it gave me different output (formatting wrong, not picking up the number of tabs required etc). I asked it why the output was different every time, the answer it gave was that it was simplifying the code!!!

You have to be very exact with it and be explicit in what you do and don’t want it to do. That makes it difficult for repetitive tasks where you want standardised output each and every time.

Python has a real decent csv api.

There is also a csv jdbc driver for Java which is great. Used it a lot. Execute ANSI standard SQL on multiple csv files.

Put away the the oul' AI bawllux.

Jesus lad, will ya listen to yourself.
You sound like a fella who did one night course in the ETB and now thinks he’s head of NASA.

‘Execute ANSI SQL’ — relax boy, you’re only poking at a few CSVs.
Half the parish has more excitement reading the Lidl catalogue.

Used it a lot, is it?
Of course you did — because no one else in the office would go near you once you started talking like a man who sleeps in a beanbag and calls his laptop a ‘workstation’.

If you said that out loud in Cork, the lads would hand you a Hi‑Vis and tell you to go out and count the cones on the South Link.
Come back to us when you’re doing something serious, like fixing the broadband or getting the immersion to stay on.”
