Anyone living in Passage West?

I grew up not far from PW and spent most of my time there as I went to school there and many of my friends lived there. My sister lives there at the moment and she loves it - says it's great for kids. There are efforts afoot to tidy the place up but it has suffered post Celtic tiger alright. But where hasn't? People are great and it has some really nice parts. It's location too is great - near to Douglas, Carrigaline, Crosshaven etc...If you like the house and you've a good feel for the place yourself go for it. Every place has its downside but if you focus on the positives and enthusiastically engage with neighbours and the local communities/organisations you can be happy anywhere. I'd move there at the drop of a hat if it wasn't for personal circumstances.

Living in Passage for the past 15 years. Great people and plenty of things to do for kids. The rowing club has a lot going for it with teams for all ages. Yes, the place looks a bit run down at the moment but most of the derelict buildings have been bought up and it should improve in appearance in the near future. Also a great place for boating, 20 minutes to Roches Point for a bit of fishing, nice walks.......not just the line.......but up the hills behind the town. Also, as estates go, Maulbaun is relatively quiet. Good people living there for the most part and I rarely hear of any trouble up there. Some nice private estates just below Maulbaun. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else tbh.

All the walks I used to take up the hills along country roads picking blackberries are no longer.

I was there a few weeks ago, and they have been destroyed by ugly residential sprawls.

People are repeating 'it's a bit run-down but should improve in the future' line that I have heard for the last 30 years.
What happened was what I mentioned above.

It's a sad shame, but PW is/is in a rut.

grand pint in the tav,

It's two pubs in one. Downstairs for the over 40's alcoholics and upstairs for the younger alcoholics!!

The downstairs jacks in there is similar to the one in Trainspotting.

In the place and with Passage in general there is a fierce clannish element with one or two families thinking they run the show.
