Anthony Stokes ???

the lad looks good, think staunton should give him a run in the qualifiers might prove a good move

It's bad enough he's in a backwater club, don't let that clodhopper get his hands on him.

what would you prefer he sit on the bench for arsenal till he is 23 and then they sell him onto birmingham? and not get international expierance also against some top class defenders? the lad is show casing his potential at a club(poor i will admit) that is helpin him improve every outing he has.

I agree think its was a great move, he's now got several clubs after him and has options. Might actually force Arsenal's hand and play him in matches besides the Carling Cup. He does have Bendtner up against him and he's also doing well for Birmingham and Wenger apparently favours him. Lupoli also is doing well at Derby(I think) so there is loads of competition ahead of him before you even get to Adebeyor(sp!) and Henry in the first team.
At least he's getting real experience instead of playing some shitty reserve teams every week. Think ultimately his future lies away from Arsenal for the moment, he could do something like Pennant, start small and gradually make a name for himself and score a big transfer back one day but striker is the hardest position in the pitch for a youngster to come through in a big club, they want results immediately and this just isn't possible with young players who need time to adjust physically and mentally to different standards. Hoepfully Stokes' loan will have helped him somewhat in that sense but ready for Arsenal's strikeforce?Don't think Wenger would go for it and he should perhaps go for a smaller team where he'll get regular football imo

Agree in some part with most of that. Falkirk are probably the smallest and least glamourous SPL side but they differ from other promoted clubs in that they like to play ball on the deck and that is what has benefitted Stokes. I heard he was going to be very good a few years ago which is why I posted the Stokes thread in the first place.
I think the next few years will see the SPL producing a few more Irish players for the national side. O' Dea played well the other day on his debut - his decision making was as good as I've seen in a while and the Celtic youth sides are overflowing with Irish lads. It's been a great move for Stokes and well done Falkirk too for chasing him.

That wikipedia link above does not seem to be working for me. Someone was tellig me the lad Stokes is a settled pikey. This could well be bullsheete but I am curious.
