Amhrán na bhFiann at GAA games

Down in the Pairc yesterday Amhrán na bhFiann was played before the Sars Feacle game. Players stood together in a group on their sides of the pitch as it played.

However with 3 lines of the song remaining the players broke and started warming up.

To me it shows a complete lack of respect for our National Anthem and something that needs to be addressed by the GAA.

It drives me absolutely insane. Never happens at soccer or rugby matches either.

I agree. The GAA need to stamp down on it. County Boards, Provincial Councils and GAA HQ need to introduce fines for any team who don't stand for the full national anthem. Also, I would love for supporters to actually sing the full national anthem too and not start roaring until the song is actually over. Watching the soccer last night, the French and Italians certainly know how to sing their national anthems as it should be!

My own opinion with regards the anthem is that it should only be played for championship. There's no need to be playing it at league games in grounds that are at 20% capacity, I know fellas will be banging on about tradition and all that, but I find it very parochial listening to a 1940s recording of Amhrán na bhFiann being played crackling through shit speakers with only a handful of the already small crowd barley signing along.

Should be played at every game but respected.
Problem with the above and it is just my opinion, is that it will dissipate to not being played at all.
