Adi Roche, Freedom of City, NO WAY

Adi Roche has achieved a lot over a long time. She has temporarily moved Children suffering from Radiation to Ireland for a holiday, then returned them, to Hell basically. It costs a fortune to do this. 100 Million has been spent over the years. The same amount of money spent locally would have permanently relocated thousands, whole families, to safe areas. Or helped a vastly bigger number to go on therapeutic holidays.
Adi's venture seems very romantic and very impractical. It has repeatedly put her in the Media, which is useful for enhancing money collection, but the Presidential Run was, well, daft. Like Norris, there seems to be a hell of a lot of Ego, and self delusion going on. On a more sinister note, there have been things going on at the Charity which were not healthy. Bullying cases which got settled out of court for instance. Furthermore focus on Chernobyl rather than many many other nuclear incidents, including Japan, seems to be way out of whack......

The World Health Organisation and many other bodies, including all the relevant international scientific organisations, have said the exact opposite. Only 55 people are known to have died and there is no increase in cancers or birth defects in the area with the exception of 1,400 that may have contracted Thyroid disease and 99% of those people have been cured. Is the Chernobyl “disaster” the most successful and widespread myth in modern times?

Overall giving the Freedom of the City to Adi, seems less than fully considered.
Strangely, this reminds me of when City Hall bestowed the same honour on four senior Clergy...... the day after the Ryan Report was published. Or when Bernie Murphy was Lord Mayor. All less then fully considered IMO. Such activities at the City Hall are self demeaning.

I contribute many many arguments and debates to this forum, it is just not the entire focus of my posting. You seem to do nothing but complain about things in Cork. I have never seen you post a positive thread on anything.

There is nothing substantive in your opening post, just rumour and begrudgery. I agree with Corcaigh, she deserves the freedom of the city.

There is substance in my post. 100 Million Euros would have done a lot more and better for the people of Chernobyl and the Ukraine than shipping a small few to Ireland for short periods. http://www.chernobylaidireland.ie Would you like to debate that particular point, or for that matter any other one? I could substantiate the Bullying issue, but it would involve naming people, who would probably rather not, as the cases were settled.
Begrudgery, nope, there is nothing about Adi or her activities that I begrudge. Rather I am a bit saddened by such effort being wasted. More importantly peoples wish to help, to do good, is diverted by such deluded 'Charities'. Comparison with Mother Theresa of Calcutta is obvious.
Why do you think she deserves Freedom of the City? Perhaps Sinead O Connor should be given Freedom of the City too?

You have decided that the money that she raised should have been used differently. I don't agree, and in any event it was her charity and she is free to help as she feels is best. If you think that something else would be more beneficial then set up your own charity rather than whinging about her.

The bullying issue you raise has no basis or context. Most organisations have HR issues, and I really dislike that you have thrown it in with no further information to try and insinuate is issue with the organisation.

If you wish to do something for charity, then do it. Stop complaining about someone who has gotten off their arse and done something.
