2026 Premier Senior Hurling Championship

Possibly but they're close enough to what's needed to win a county I think. Lads like Cunningham & Buckley another year older and physically developed. They'll be close.
I think Kevin Murray will do well as coach. I just don't rate Paudie as a manager, think his manner is poor and can't see players dying for him, I just think he's the type to create hassle in a camp.
I'd agree with that. I've seen Kevin in action as a coach. He's got an ego (which doesn't bother me) but knows his stuff.

He would have coached some of those Barrs at underage around W Buckley's age group so should have a good relationship with those lads.

I've actually felt the Barrs biggest issue at times has been playing as a team in hurling, more so in some of the earlier round games. I suppose that's understandable given so many of their lads have been involved with various Cork teams during the IC season. It's can be hard when half the starting team don't join in till a couple of weeks before Championship starts to find that cohesion.

They'll be there or there abouts on talent alone.

After playing really well for the first 40 minutes and mirroring Ballygunner’s shape for much of that time, St. Martin's are starting to struggle. Maybe it’s because of fatigue but they've gone away from what was working for them and are now going man-to-man all over the pitch, which is playing right into Ballygunner’s hands.

In the first half, St. Martin’s were working the ball back and scoring from distance, rather than hitting it into Ballygunner’s half, where there were often 13 Ballygunner players. Now, they’re sending it into a forward line where there is almost no space.

Additionally, in the first half, St. Martin’s half-back line was happy to stay in zonal positions, and weren’t overly bothered that Ballygunner’s half-forward line were dropping back. They had support from their own half-forward line, which made it more effective. Ballygunner really had to earn those scores in the first 40, which is the direct opposite now.

Ballygunner are a class team and are likely to win the club championship, but it’s so much easier for them when they have so much space in front of their full-forward line, and there is so little space in front of their full-back line. They enjoyed that benefit in all of their Munster matches and the last 20 minutes of this game.

Very good analysis Dougie. In order to beat Ballygunner, you cannot give the likes of Dessie Hutchinson, Kevin Mahoney and Patrick Fitzgerald that space inside. Yes, St. Martin's were well structured in the first half and their workrate was manic. The forwards in particular, were not allowing Ballygunner set up play. The likes of Philip Mahoney and Conor Sheehan couldn't pull the strings like they normally do. Even Stephen O' Keeffe didn't have the same options to pick out players as he's used to.

But St. Martin's couldn't keep it up and when they got tired, their concentration levels dropped and they got sucked out. Ballygunner's workrate, composure and ability to stick to the plan is that of intercounty level.

St. Martin's would have stayed with them a little longer but a big Leinster campaign, Leinster celebrations, Jack O' Connor's wedding on top of balancing football and hurling for weeks caught up with them.

With Jason Ryan back in management, I can see him going for the Waterford job at some stage.
