It’s a pity but with the new structure which has produced a thriving club scene across the county it has an impact on divisional sides. The Divisions are going to die a death. Muskerry struggling too apparently, not that they are overly involved in Hurling.
Over the winter I was part of a detailed conversation about the divisions and overall it looks terminal really.
The Echo story is misleading in a way. Avondhu as a division is stronger at football, with more clubs playing the higher grades at football.
Far more clubs hurling wise are operating at the lower grades. A lot of Avondhu hurling first teams are still only playing Junior A level. Even some traditional hurling priority clubs only play to Junior grade. Fellas playing the lower grades are going to be far more interested in the opportunity to play with divisions. That’s what’s happened there.
