2024 Premier Senior Hurling Championship

with a few years now Under 17s are not allowed play adult as per offical guide, in Cork is that U18? only in senior or all grades? if all grades it really impacts smaller rural clubs. Joe Canning was man of the match in a county final in his U17 year but i think its a good rule. Lamine Yamal won the Euros in his u17 year.
18 year olds can play adult but only at junior level, you have the farcical situation where the 2 best cork minors last year can’t play Senior A with their club vut can play junior with them

Imagine if you were a club like Newcestown or Fr O Neills and you had an exceptional 18 year old or two but can’t play them at premier senior level? It could be the difference between qualifying or not, or worse again being relegated

Meanwhile Imokilly win the county with a pick that would be the envy of any club in the country. Imagine having 500 adult players to choose from?

But we are Cork, we must do things differently ?

No club had as many representatives on the Imokilly matchday 30 as Watergrasshill’s seven the afternoon of the little All-Ireland. Within that, half-back Dáire O’Leary and the inside pair of Adam Murphy and Sean Desmond were incredibly important cogs in the East Cork wheel. The latter pair contributed 1-3 from play.

“I would be very strong in encouraging the guys to play with Imokilly,” Enright continued.

“It is exposure to a higher level of hurling; you'll be better for it. I think it was really important for our guys to be part of that set-up. They played really, really well. To have seven on the panel, it was great to see a small club like Watergrasshill having such an influence on a team like Imokilly. I am glad they embraced it and I am certainly a big fan of that.”

An interesting excerpt from Eddie Enrights interview in today's Examiner espousing the benefits of playing for Imokilly.
Yes, read that.

The Hill are now one grade away from potentially having to play against his divisional colleagues.
I wonder how he'd feel about it if that were to happen? Could they be another FONs!

Yerra I just hate the whole divisional thing.

Having said that, a great win for The Hill today. Full value for it. But fair play to Carrigaline who made than fight tooth and nail for it.

Great afternoon's entertainment in De Park. Two cracking games. Really enjoyed my afternoon out.

U/18s were precluded in Cork to prevent player burnout if you had an exceptional 18yr old - he could end up in multiple teams
Also to prevent fixture congestion as all the minor games would be held up if your top player involved with an adult team - your team mates would be hanging around all year waiting for the adult team to go out of competition That was agreed with all the clubs in Cork
Junior clubs looked for an exception to the rule as there were concerns they mightnt be able to field without their 18 olds so an exception was made for junior teams

You now have senior /intermediate clubs kicking up they can’t play their 18yr olds which would be counter productive to the original rule
Counties were given their own autonomy on it - so other counties may have ruled differently
