2024 Premier Senior Hurling Championship

I found the Imokilly team against Blackrock

A miserly 3 starters playing at Junior level plus 1 sub who came on while 12 starters and 3 subs who came on are playing at Premier Junior or higher where they are more than well catered for as they need to be

Real development of the small clubs there by Imokilly 😀

IMOKILLY: E Davis (St Catherine’s); T Wilk (Cobh), M Russell (Aghada), C O’Brien (Cpt) (St Ita’s); D O’Leary (Watergrasshill), C Joyce (Castlemartyr), J Cronin (Lisgoold); S Hegarty (Dungourney) B Cooper (Youghal); S Harnedy (St Ita’s), D Healy (Lisgoold), B Lawton (Castlemartyr); A Murphy (Watergrasshill), S Desmond (Watergrasshill), J Leahy (Dungourney).

Subs: K O’Neill (Watergrasshill) for Russell (39), M Kelly (Castlemartyr) for Murphy (43), D O’Brien (St Ita’s) for Healy (58), L O’Shea (Lisgoold) for Desmond (60+1).

There are only 3 clubs whose first team play Junior A in the Division.

So when you stand back and look at it, with a Division of 20 clubs, and 17 of them now playing In County level championships, (with 3 having seconds teams) then over time the effort put into the divisional team would seem to have paid off for the smaller clubs

Their work is done so 😀

You look at Paudie Clifford, he was never a Kerry minor or U21.
He made his name by playing Senior Football with his Division East Kerry.
Look at him now.

So the moral of the story is if Imokilly followed suite and started more “unknown” players Cork hurling might be in a better place 😀

I don’t blame Imokily for playing Cooper, Lawton etc as their primary focus is to win, playing for Imokily is priceless for the likes of Davis, Wilk, O’Leary, Healy, Desmond, Leahy even Murphy all who would have ambitions of catching Pat Ryan’s eye, they only became a issue when they starting beating Midleton, Blackrock and the Glen, until they start winning like Ballygunner (11 in a row) clubs need to make less noise and produce more action on the playing field Imokily last won in 2019 and Sars won’t hand it over too easy either

The one change that would benefit Cork hurling is if they put a age limit on the college/divisions to U25 if you haven’t made the Cork senior panel by 25 your prob not going to, this would capture felas that may have fallen through the holes
