2024 Premier Junior Football Championship

Who cares? What difference does it make?
It makes no difference to our county championships (just giving each grade a different title) but it gives us a better chance to compete with Kerry clubs in the Munster Football Junior and Intermediate club championships. Kerry have won 19 of the last 22 Junior Munsters and 17 of the last 19 Intermediate Munsters.

I would like to reiterate my point that a renaming of the grades in Cork in order to give us a better chance of winning Munster Intermediate and Junior club titles should be considered. Kerry clubs have had it too easy for too long.

I’d still disagree, our club sides are appropriately placed and Kerry is the anomaly here that needs looking at, we’re the joint 3rd most successful county at club level in both Intermediate and Junior football as it stands, Kerry are far in front in both.

Both Kilmurry and Cill na Martra, have won provincial titles in recent years, likewise, the club sides we do send out are miles above those from the other counties and would probably win some of the other provinces (look at how one-sided Buttevant’s Munster quarter-final was).

Plus our hurling sides are more than strong enough at the same grades (if anything they’re too strong at junior), we should be keeping the grades consistent across hurling and football for the sake of our duel clubs within Cork, not changing grades for potentially 3 bonus matches with Kerry sides in the middle of winter.

Of the 3 Kerry teams playing this weekend, 1 played Division 1 football, Ballymac. Both Ghaeltacht and Dingle and were mid table in division 2. Worthy winners of this comp.
