2024 Premier Junior Football Championship

Canovee Vs Buttevant - Buttevant to win, I don’t think Buttevant are going to fear canovee as much as other teams have this year, they have very good footballers and are competitive in the leagues above Canovee, no reason they should sit back and give the respect others have given Canovee all year

St Nicks Vs Cobh - A real tough one to call, both sides would be happy that they are on this side of the draw and have the chance to make the final. Nicks are on a high this year out of nowhere will this be a bridge too far or will the momentum keep building? Cobh always solid in this grade but don’t think they’ll ever have enough to make it out of the grade. I’m going for a Nicks win, maybe ET also

I popped up to Carrigtwohill to watch Nicks and Cobh. Maybe someone can tell me the backstory or issue if there is any with the ref and cobh? He robbed them blind. 😂 Some of the softest, scorable frees I've seen in a long time given to nicks. Ref worth 5/6 points to Nicks. Cobh were up by 6 at one stage and full value. Nicks very wasteful but got a few handy frees that got them level. That and a sweet 2 pointer from Dean Brosnan. Himself and Lee Quiligan came off the bench and were troublesome. Cobhs #12 Diarmuid Kearney probably the best player on the field. Having seen Buttevant already this year they won't have much to worry about I don't think.

Buttevant 2-16 Canovee 0-12. Buttevant with another very impressive display again today. They made Canovee look ordinary. The 2 O' Hanlons and Mark Lenahan are quality players. Their backs were very solid also. I tipped St. Nicks to be dark horses this year and fair play to them for making it to a county final. But I think Buttevant will have too much for them if they play anywhere near their potential in the final.

Good analysis but it had nothing to do with the ref today. Nicks scored 4 frees, Cobh scored 1 but missed 3 handy ones in the second half.

And how many did nicks miss in the second half? My point is the soft frees, even further out the field, totally deject a player and change the momentum. Lads get frustrated. It's an overall problem in cork not just last night. Someone alluded to in a different thread about refs not having playing experience so can't see it from the other side. The cobh defenders had bottled up the Nicks forward and the ref blows a free to Nicks, at least twice. I haven't even mentioned some of the off the ball stuff or the dubious 2 pointer that the player was on/over the line for. Admittedly I was on the dressing room side but the players seem to be convinced he was over.

You'd have to think in a pitch like the Pairc that the Buttevant forwards would be hard to hold for an hour. Nicks would be better in a tighter slower pitch to turn it into a dogfight.
Think Buttevant might win very handy.
They've only had one close game all championship that was a 2 point win, everything else was in the region of 8+

Great to see Conor Hanlon fit and firing. Looked a fine prospect at underage but injuries cost him.

Kicked some lovely scores today.

I would say Buttevant have 3 or 4 forwards well capable of playing senior club football and will be a decent team at intermediate level next year if they keep the group together and their big players fit.

Nicks were honest and hard working but they hadn't the fire power to match Buttevant today.
