2024 Junior A Football Championship

Valleys conceeded to Mallow. . All I can say is the whole thing is becoming farcical
Anyone with just a passing interest in Cork GAA will tell you the junior competitions are farcical. The most out of touch, inappropriate uncompetitive structures in the entire GAA organization.
Time to make a couple more league and championship grades to finally start catering for smaller clubs and give them proper competitive matches.

Well said. It must be sickening for guys playing the same 7/8 teams every year in divisional leagues and championships. Little wonder the best junior players are itching to move to the bigger town clubs. Many more would jump ship were it not for fear of ostracisation in the parish.

The expanded county league divisions have gone some way to address it. No reason it couldn’t be expanded further to 10 divisions.

Let’s get back to the actual competition. I think Ballygarvan and maybe Aghinagh under Bobby O Dwyer look like early front runners for the county

I saw the junior divisions county league quarter final playoff results. 3 of the 4 games played.. what a disaster..
A walkover given by Carrigdhoun reps, Duhallow team obliterated by Passage and 3rd game a hammering.

Tbh I'd say at least 3 or 4 Muskerry teams and similarly Carbery teams would be fighting promotion in the bottom grade of the county league but will still take a few years to get there because they are being punished for being in the stronger of the divisions.

Divisional grades are also a joke. For example in Muskerry Donoughmore were run close by Eire Og in a league final come the later stages of championship i would imagine Eire Og would be down 4 or 5 of that team and Donoughmore would hammer them.

I think county winners will most likely be a county league team this year. As another poster mentioned Ballygarvan and Aghinagh would be top contenders with Kilmacabea, Argideen Rangers, Castlemagner, LC Gaels, St James in the chasing pack.

Donoughmore would be the strongest team not already in county leagues imo

Is it not better that Donoughmore have competitive league games against quality players (some who have played or will play Senior) , than to be playing weaker sides and not being ready then if they make it to county championship stage?

Its not my point at all.

My point is that Eire Og could potentially win a league in say Mid Cork with a senior player piled team which is not a true reflection of their actual Senior squad thus could go to a county league based on that and the likes of Donoghmore who would probably win the majority of other divisional league at there ease may not get the chance to go up to the County league based if they had lost to the likes of Eire Og
