2024 Junior A Football Championship

Think Castlemagner are Duhallow and that was County League? I imagine Oier O’Callaghan wasn’t playing with leaving cert anyway.

Great win for Ballyclough in Avondhu

Junior A weekly roundup:

Carbery: Midweek there was wins for Ballinascarthy over Carbery Rangers second outift, Goleen continued their impressive rise from junior B last year to beat Barryroe comprehensively, and St Marys & Kimeen shared the spoils. Carbery Rangers then got back on track at the weekend, when they comfortably beat Mathunas, and Randal Og beat O Donovan Rossa. The league is still very much up for grabs as 6/7 of the teams are seperated by just 2 points. In the County league the heavyweight clash in division 7 wasn't as close as anticipated, with Argideen Rangers beating Kilmacabea by 8 points, in what is a big boost for the Timoleague mens promotion chances, Kilmmacabea play Lisarroll/Churchtown next round in a massive clash with both teams level on points in joint second place, St James hammered Urhan to all but garauntee their safety in the division.

Avondhu: It was an interesting 2 weeks for Ballyclough who had 3 games, Charleville beat them to secure top of the divisional table, they then beat Clyda and 3 days later beat Killavullen. Deel rovers conceeded to Kilshannig. This concludes the league and its CharIeville vs Mallow in the final. In the county league, Liscarroll/Churchtown Gaels were suprisingly beaten by Castlemagner in a blow to their promotion hopes, meanwhile Ballyhooly suffered another defeat to Nemo Rangers which relegates them after going 0/7.

Muskerry: There was wins for Kilmichael, Clondrohid & Donoughmore over Grenagh, Aghabullogue & Ballincollig respectively and Eire Og and Ballingeary played out a stalemate. That concludes the league, with Donoughmore topping it and Eire Og claiming the runner up spot. In the county league, Aghinagh suffered a promotion blow after being well beaten by Cullen.

Duhallow: In the Ducon Cup, Kiskeam beat Newmarket by 3 points, Kilbrin beat both Banteer/lyre & Lismire respectively in the space of 3 days. In the county league, Castlemagner gave themselves a big boost at avoiding relegation with a hugely impressive win over Liscarroll/Churchtown Gaels by the bare minimum.

Seandun: There was wins for Bishopstown over Ballyphehane, Passage hammered Whites Cross & then Glanmire beat Bishopstown. Meaning it is Glanmire who top the table and will play Passage in the league final. In the County league, Nemo beat Ballyhooly and Mayfield put up a good showing against Dromtarriffe but ultimately fell up short. They now face Na Piarsaigh in what is a loser goes down tie.

Imokilly: Castlemartyr beat Middleton with ease, while Carrigtwohill beat Fr O Neils in the final league game and what was the league final also, to crown Carrigtwohill as the Bishop Roche div 1 Cup champions.

Carrigdhoun: Valley Rovers beat Ballygarvan, and then lost to Ballinhassig a few days later, Carrigaline beat Ballymartle with ease meaning they top the table. Whoever will join them depends on how Valleys vs Courceys go with both having a chance to finish in that runner up spot.

excellent synopsis as per usual

With county league due to start in a few weeks time how are divisional finals looking:

I see Seandun have played there league final Passage v Glanmire, Passage coming out on top.
Muskerry League final is Eire Og v Donoughmore

How are other divisions looking?

Charleville v Mallow in Div 1 final in Avondhu

It was a competitive enough league this year all taking points off each other with Deel Rvs the team everyone beat

Kilavullen would be disappointed with there showing though 3rd from bottom, maybe playing Div 7 in Co hurling league a priortiy for them. A loss to Clyda and Ballyclough were standout

Muskerry looking really hard to call with the form donoughmore are showing. Unbeaten in a competitive league is a great achievement to have and something to build on for championship.

Looking at the groups you’d imagine Donoughmore and Ballincollig to qualify from group 1.

Group 2 looks very interesting as to who’ll place second. You’d imagine aghinagh would top the group but between Clondrohid and Grenagh it’s very hard to call. I’m going to tip Clondrohid here to come second as I can see Grenagh getting caught by a weaker Kilmichael.

Group 3 the exact same with Eire Og winning it out and second place up for grabs. I think Ballingeary somehow have the best chance but then again that all depends on championship dates for those clubs first teams.

Overall Predictions: Donoughmore to win it out but Clondrohid to be a real dark horse in this championship

Avondhu Junior Football Division 1 League Final result:

Mallow 3-12 Charleville 0-18 AET

A huge result for Mallow's B team. Charleville looked well in control, finding themselves in a 0-11 to 0-4 lead. But Mallow seriously improved in the 2nd half and pulled it back to level the game at the end. Mallow's bench made a huge impact. It shows the strength in depth they have in the club. Charleville will rue missing a bucket load of chances, especially when they had a lead that they should have built. Mallow should be strong for championship too as I don't think they will lose many to the Senior team.
