2024 Junior A Football Championship

I’ve heard positive things about the underage lately which is great in fairness.
It’s really taken off again which is great to see. Whereas 10 years ago Mayfield were miles ahead of us that has now reversed. A lot of new families moved into the area in the last 10 years and it’s rejuvenated the club.

I am curious here. Is the young o neill forward from ross whos playing with the 20's only able to play junior a football this year?
If he was minor (under17) in 2024 then yes that is correct. u18 players (born in 2007) can’t play above junior A level in 2025

Yes he was playing minor last year so can play in the carbery junior championship but not for their senior team. Strange rule but not one altered for senior clubs, more to help smaller clubs. Be interesting to see if Carbery Rangers use him in Junior championship come summer. He's very light to play adult ball but could be good experience for him.

Junior B & C Championships starting this weekend. Anyone have an idea who’d be favourites in either? Ballyphehane probably for the B considering they’ve lost the last 2 finals but no idea what to expect in the C. Grange and Rathpeacon maybe?

Grange lost the C last year narrowly so wouldn’t be too far off it, Castlelyons only down from B also so should be strong enough at Junior C, hard to call really, could go anyway at that level.

How are Dillons going? Obviously a relatively big name down at Junior B level but them being in a group with Ballyphehane and Clann na nGael looks interesting to an outsider anyway.

Ballyphehane surely the ones to beat overall been close for a few years now and putting good work in, good to see them getting a hurling team out this year also.

Junior B hurling starting the weekend after then. I presume Brian Dillon’s, Ballyclough and maybe O Donovan Rossa are favourites?

I would expect Dillons to win it out. Serious gulf in standards between Junior A and Junior B. If they have any decent team out they’ll be fine.

Great work being done by Ballyphehane. I see they have had a minor team aswell the last number of years and doing some great work in their pitch above in Redmonds. Fantastic to see another club coming in the city. Even better that they are not a flash in the pan and are developing the underage. Using Musgrave park also for underage training in the winter. Looks like they will be sustainable and an alternative for kids in the area to the Barrs which can only be good for Cork gaa

Would imagine they’re strong favourites for the hurling for sure unless they’ve lost an awful lot, Buttevant were fairly comfortable in that championship when they went down.

The likes of Ballyclough and Uibh Laoire may be competitive otherwise but Dillons definitely the big name.
