2024 Junior A Football Championship

Carbery Results from today: St Marys 1-11 0-13 Barryroe- champions have been dethroned D O Mathunas 2-8 1-10 St Colums Ballinascarthy 0-14 0-7 Kilbrittain

So after those results Quarter finals are as follows:
Kilmacabea v Randal Og
Ballinascarthy v St Marys
Carbery Rangers 2 v D O Mathunas Timoleague v Castlehaven 2
The loss of Robbie kiely was clearly too much for barryroe to cope with this year. Kilmacabea look strong favourites now.

As was Olan O Donovan who was out injured today. Looking like Kilmacs to loose now, although they've been far from comfortable in all 3 group games...wouldn't rule out St Marys or Ross 2nd string either both very good sides and tough to beat on their day..probably the form of Damien Gore and the hurt of last year will probably just tip it in Kilmacs favour

A kilmac haven would be some final

Now that all Divisional championships are now at the knock-out stages, here is my rankings of the possible Divisional winners:

1. Ballygarvan
2. Killavullen/LC Gaels
3. Kilmacabea/St Marys/ Carbery Rangers
4. Mayfield
5. Aghinagh/Ballincollig/Inniscarra
6. Erin's Own
7. Castlemagner

Might be doing some teams or divisions a dis-service but looking at the teams left they are all the most likely winners of each division

Douglas 2nd team should be winning Seandun

Some big surprises here. I thought Aghinagh would make light work of Ballincollig. Would be interesting to see what team Eire Og had out considering they were beaten by that much against Donoughmore.
Bit of a surprise with Aghinagh alright only drawing with B'collig but no harm done in the end, still going straight through to the semi's. It will actually probably benefit them, giving them a kick up the arse like that, given they waltzed though in their first 2 games by 15/20 points.

Inniscarra through to semi's as well but might risk being under-cooked, not having had any form of test really in the group stages. No disrespect meant, but Ballinoras reserves & Blarney (when their hurlers are pulled) are Junior B teams really so beating them as easily as they have done is no good to them. I'd still have them as the top 2 with Aghinagh, but they'd have definitely benefited from more testing games.

Mighty win for Donoughmore in fairness. I do wonder what team Eire Og had out with their seniors playing the following day and having already qualified. But very impressive none the less and I'd expect them to win their quarter final whoever they play and be very dangerous opponents for Aghinagh or Inniscarra in a semi-final. Not something I would have envisaged at the start of the year so more credit to them.

I wouldn't rule out ballinascarthy. Seemed comfortable enough throughout the group stage also. Hurling might be their preference tho so interesting to see how they will do trying to balance both

Avondhu QF and SF Draw was made tonight:

QF A: LC Gaels v Ballyhooly
QF B: Charleville v Ballyclough

SF Killavullen v A
SF Mallow v B

Relegation Play-Off between Kilworth, Kilshannig's 2nd team and Clyda Rovers 2nd team.

*****************

Mallow's 2nd team seem to be motoring well. Could be dark horses in this competition. James Loughrey is playing for them.

A bad year for Kilworth who find themselves in the Premier Intermediate Relegation Hurling Final and Junior Football Relegation when they would have been serious challengers in both competitions only 12 months ago. Also, Clyda football seems to be on a serious dip too.

Heard Cian O'Riordan played for mallow in the win over Fermoy, class player to have playing junior A along with loughrey and a few good minors, they'll make the final imo but Killavullen or Geals might just about have too much.
