    The Hurling Thread

Limerick aren't old now, but this group will be old in three years' time. Plus they have an unusually high amount of milage, and some key players have had extended spells out through injury. I agree that they'll be the team to beat next year, but it's much harder to say whether thst will still...

    The Hurling Thread

I'd be doubtful tbh. Wouldn't rule it out, since there'll only be a handful of realistic challengers in three or four years time, but in that time-frame Galway will have surely overhauled most of their current team. They had a v good minor team last year but it's unlikely those players will be...

    2024 Premier Senior Hurling Championship

Your friend was correct. Twomey scratched, replaced by Wiggington Barrett. Eoghan Finn out as well. Conor Cahalane named at no. 26, I'd have thought if he was fit to contribute they would have chanced him in place of Twomey.

    2024 Premier Senior Hurling Championship

Straightforward enough for Douglas. Bishopstown have been hanging on for years, afraid this might be the year they drop. In their favour, they've been in this position many times, plenty of experience of handling the pressure.

    Future Cork Hurlers

I'd have most of the players Corkonian1 named. I'd add Barrett and Connolly in place of Buckley and Cotter, and I'd have Mullins in midfield. Not quite sure who would be at corner-back - I might have Darragh O'Sullivan there ahead of MacCarthy.

    Future Cork Hurlers

I would say Cork have the best pick of players in the country between the ages of 20 to 23 or 24. I imagine the vast majority of new players that will be brought in next year or who will break through to the first team will be in that age bracket. But (with some exceptions) the most promising...

Thanks for this - I've been trying to say exactly the same (except for the stuff about O'Regan's attitude, which I don't have enough knowledge to comment on).

    Future Cork Hurlers

It's comparing them when you say they both need to be more consistent - that claim only makes sense if you have assumed they are each not consistent enough. That's the comparison. My point is that this comparison overlooks the v different levels each player has reached so far in his hurling career.

    Future Cork Hurlers

You did compare O'Flynn and O'Regan - you said it would be great if they would both improve and show more consistency, which only makes sense if you think they both need to improve and neither have been consistent enough. Which is fine as far as it goes, but it ignores the fact that O'Flynn has...

    Future Cork Hurlers

Displays in various matches, especially between 2020 and 2022. The Galway one stood out in that, in a game in which Cork's forwards misfired badly, he was probably the only one to to get the better of his man (bar Alan Cardogan in his terrific cameo from the bench). But that was by no means the...

    Future Cork Hurlers

That's a fair bit of cherry-picking with O'Flynn there. You're citing one senior match from three seasons back, and one decision in an underage match from seven seasons back. Fair play to you for ignoring the numerous scores and fine displays O'Flynn has produced for club and county in that...

    Future Cork Hurlers

Mullins was unlucky last year and hopefully if he stays injury-free he will get a decent run in the league, i e., not just five or ten minutes here and there. As for O'Regan, he is undoubtedly talented but honestly, I think he's done v little since 2019 to merit making even an extended panel...

    Future Cork Hurlers

I think we're talking in circles about O'Brien at this stage, but to summarise my view: I'd like to see him get a run next year. Like you, I would have preferred him to Twomey based on what I saw of them both in that U20 team. But I am more sceptical than you that O'Brien's hurling is up to the...

    Cork Camogie 2022

Re your last question, only if a score results with no other touch on the ball.

    Cork Camogie 2022

Great battling at the end, but TBF they were a bit fortunate between the goal and a few heavy challenges at the end which the ref probably should have blown for. Neither team showed much composure in injury time, but Cork's two points after Galway levelled gave them that crucial edge.

    Cork Camogie 2022

Ref has swallowed the whistle, Cork probably doing better out of that.

    K. Mackey limping off. Did she get a knock just after scoring the goal? Seemed to fall against the post?

    Cork Camogie 2022

That's what I thought as well. But it's either a goal or a penalty. Cork motoring since HT, need to make the most of this patch to build a nice lead.

    Cork Camogie 2022

Agreed. Galway also working v hard to make sure Cork don"t run at their Hb line. The ball is going up to the Cork 65 and then there is no space to run into. Good start to the second half, back in front.
