These mass shootings happen everywhere in the western world, but everywhere but the USA they're rare.

Heard today that the second amendment was added to the constitution around 1790, but Benjamin Franklin advised that it should be reviewed every 7 years to keep up with modern society.

So the guys that wrote it 230 years ago had the foresight to see it might not be a good amendment in years to come, but somehow America suffering these shootings right now do not.

Interesting to watch the Republicans twist and turn on this. Only a week ago, they claimed that teachers wanting to mention the very existence of homosexuals to primary school students were in fact “grooming” them for pedophile sex and that this was widespread. Today, they are calling for heavily arming these same teachers.

I attribute much of this to the very low literacy rate in the US. And by this I don’t mean a level of literacy to be able to read a McDonald’s menu, but a level high enough to read a book. The former rate is 99 percent. The latter is closer to 50 percent. These people may or may not be stupid, but unfortunately they are too uneducated to be able to tell.
