There were a grand total of 754 new homes built in all of Cork City (including the boundary extension areas) last year. That is fuck all, and how many of them were socal housing, and how many were left for the private sales/family/first time buyer market?

Also there were just 98 apartments built, at a time when higher density housing is exactly what we need. We'd all love to see thousands of semi detached houses streaming into the market but the reality is the problem is so bad we need apartments, and fast.

But if just 13% of New supply is apartments, that's not fast enough.

You have the planning regulator Niall Cussen ( a political appointment) clashing with Cork county council over their development plan.

We have been saddled with this arsehole thanks to Eoghan Murphy and he is insisting on density in areas of the county where these kind of developments simply don't stack up.

Developers are not going to build apartments in Cork County that will not turn a profit, and why should they.

He is answerable to no one and has held up the building of thousands of houses in Cork alone.

I just love simplistic solutions to complex problems:

How many of them are in probate?
How many of them have their owners in nursing homes?
How many of them are empty due to legal disputes.
How many of them are owned/re-possessed by the banks?
How many of them have structural issues?
How many of them are owned by the local authority?
How many of them have subsidence issues?
How many of them have asbestos/pyrite etc?
How many of them have their owners living abroad?
How many building contractors/Labourers are available?
How much will it cost assuming no issues like the above?

Having dealt with Cork City council wrt derelict property I can tell you for a fact they are quite happy to sit on derelict property rather than make it available to those who would turn it around.

Theres no impetus on them to do otherwise so they are quite happy to sit back and let their stock simply fall down over years.

They could not give a monkeys as they have free parking and drive out to the suburbs every day after "work" and they do not have to look at derelict houses spoiling their view.

Considering whats coming to light in the planning board atm it seems the Irish planning process is still trapped in Ray Burke mode.

Not only is our pal Hyde from Little Island under investigation but it seems another member of the board has been voting decisions in her neighbourhood.

People in ballyphehane are objecting to a 3 storey development on the old manhattan site, the place is an eyesore but people say a 3 storey development
would be out of character with the area, idiots,

There's a bungalow next to the site, which is very compact for the amount of units proposed for it which I think is 26.
