BUS BAYS GOING BANG,

Great plan. Shame it completely ignores the three schools nearby.
St Patrick’s Hill, St Patrick’s Place and Wellington Road
  • Reverse the section of St Patrick’s Hill between MacCurtain Street and St. Patrick's Place from southbound currently to northbound traffic flow;
  • Relocate the existing on-street parking from the western side of the street to the eastern side of the street;
  • Provide enhanced pedestrian facilities to include new pedestrian signalised crossings on St Patrick’s Place and Wellington Road and a raised pedestrian table at the junction of Sidney Hill;
  • Modify the existing parking in the vicinity of Sidney Hill to include the provision of set down spaces and a coach parking area.

All car parking on Wellington Road should be removed, it has the potential to be a very nice, tree lined boulevard and entry point to the city.

The elimination of parking spaces would widen the traffic flow and enable buses to move up and down more freely. The concept of parking your car outside your residence in a modern urban environment is an anachronism. The proposed Park N' Ride at Tinkers Cross would have encouraged more people to use buses to access the city centre. Residents could be given free parking at these park and ride facilities. But the convenience of living within walking distance of the city centre amenities should means that the convenience of having your private vehicle parked outside your home like in the suburbs is no longer possible.

You can't have it every way.

You might want to alert the council to your theory given that they've only recently reserved car park spaces for council house occupiers which are already pretty central and literally feet away from a bus stops served by a number of bus routes.
