He has no idea whatsoever about the guests beforehand which is its unique selling point and the whole jeopardy for the interviewer.

The show is doing so well other that countries/broadcasters are thinking of buying it.

It's called marketing a project. "Let's say that Tommy doesn't have a clue who he's going to be interviewing and that way we don't have to inform viewers in advance who the guests will be. That way people will have to tune in to see who's on the show and thus we will achieve higher viewing figures."

It will be only a matter of time before someone associated with the show will be selling the story to The Sunday World.

If it is a scam both Tommy and the interviewee do an amazing job spoofing it considering it's live.
I am inclined to think it is as it is sold - blind interviews.

The cynicism is understandable but one other thing to consider is that I don't think Tommy is the type to go along with that kind of scam.

I think it suits Tommy, he just rocks up about 15 minutes before airing, does his gig and doesn't think about the show for another 6 days and 22 hours

The late late never used to inform viewers in advance who the guests were. They didn't need Gay Byrne not to know who the guests were in order to do that.

The cynicism is understandable but one other thing to consider is that I don't think Tommy is the type to go along with that kind of scam.

I listened to an interview with Tommy recently and the whole process is quite stressful for him as he is genuinely in the dark on it.

I like his shows, he just lets the guest get on with it and talk. Too many shows like Tubridy is all about the presenter who is constantly interrupting trying to put their spin on it. Remember the one with Michael Healy Rae where Tommy didn’t say a lot but MHR touched on a sensitive topic and was great to hear about that story.
